The girls boarded the omnibus Saturday afternoon, and spent most of their time over at Folly visit ing onetime schoolmate Bev Glover. TAPS ... Last week-end Clemson College had all the gags and girls up for. the Taps Ball . . . Paul Whiteman and his famous orchestra played for the affair . . . Co-eds going up for the dances were: Lil Boulware, Jo Robinson, Margie Russell, and Agnes Mikell . . . Mary Wylie Con niffe sponsored for Dick Caughman . . . Mary Wylie proved to be the cutest of then all cause she created a little excitement and publicity by sponsoring for Dick Caughman . . . Not to be left out of the ex citement were the Roses of Pi Kappa Phi Claude Cely, and Jimmie Wilson who were also there for the Taps Ball. SPIRIT ... Irene Bryant and Sara Frew Hamilton created a little Holiday spirit by going up to Washington over the holidays . . . whereas Bob Schwinn of the local Piker Chapter went to Montgomery, Ala. . . Artie Shaw, in honor and not in honor of his frat, gave a Boch Beer party at his Villa on Lake Murray . . . SAE sang their way into the possession of two b'eautiful loving ctips at the annual Song Fest, sponsored by Alpha Kappa Gamma . . . They won the inter-fraternity song contest, and the Fred Waring Cup for the best arrangement of Carolina's fight song. HI-HO . . . Days may come and days may go but Margaret S. BlackweU and Bunny Scott go on forever . . . Friday came as it usually does and they came to Charleston to visit former stude Dorothy Parke now at the Medical College . . . Had a wonderful time and saw some other Caro lina grads, niamely Sandy Hartman, Martha Dukes, Frank Woodruff, Niles Borop, and Billy McCaw . . . Congrats to Phi Rho Sigma of the Med. College for the new stove, "Detroit Jewel" . . . but don't let Mr. Holley out talk you when the time comes to retin the roof. TWO-STEP ... Mac Milam and Billy Douglas partakes in a little waltz at the Spring Formal of the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (some twister) at Greensboro last week-end . . . The Pi Kappa Alpha's are beginning to make plans for their Bowery Ball to be on May 10 ... Phi Sigma Kappa's had as their prelude to the holidays a Western party at Lexington to celebrate Joe Lever's victory and the coming holidays . . . The following new officers were installed: Mary Frances Polk for Anne Belser, president; Josephine Lindsay for Irene LaBorde, vice president; Leona Strickland for Kat Edgerton, secretary; Mary Louise Goudelock for Mary Frances Polk, treasurer. Following the installation service, Carolyn Lindsay, a senior at Colum bia College entertained with two selections, "Indian Love Call' and "Poor Butterfly." Mrs. Maude M. Hawkins, faculty advisor for Polu mathian, gave an interesting talk on the purpose and aims of the society and introduced the principal speak er for the occasion, Dr. C. M. Arial, head of the English Depart ment at Columbia College. Dr. Arial's address was an in spiring one based on women in this changing world of today. He spoke of the "wreck of the world and the tangle of the future" in which we live, with women always as a stable influence in regard to intellect, beauty in all its forms and the soul. Membership in this Society is limited to the 25 freshmen girls selected by the members from those girls who have a scholastic average of B or better on this first semest er's grade. Tea Given For The Sociology Classes In the picturesque setting of their landscaped azelea garden, Dr. and Mrs. G. Croft Williams entertained members of the sociology classes last Monday afternoon between 4 and 5 o'clock. Dr. Williams is dean of the sociology department. Within a year's time lie and his wife have converted a former swamp land at 4111 Trenholm road into a scenic garden having a large fish pond in the center. This is sur rounded by azalea of flame color, dogwood, other flowers, and the native trees. )uring the party, Dr. Williams explained how they drained the swamp and formed the streamlets serving as outlets to the fish pool. Mrs. Williams and members of a sociology recreational class served the students punch and cookies. Over a hun dred girls are expected to attend. Active delegates will be present from Goucher college, Baltimore, Md.; George Washington univer sity, Washington, D. C.; Randolph Macon Woman's college, Lynch burg, Va.; William and Mary, Wil liamsburg, Va.; University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N. C.; and Duke University, Durham, N. C. Alumnae delegates from alumnae clubs in Baltimore, Md., Chapel Hill, N. C., Charlotte, N. C., Richmond, Va., Tri-City, N. C., and Washing ton, D. C., as wvell as all charter members and alumnae in South Carolina, are also expected to be in attendance. At the formal banquet during the convention, the delegates will cele brate the tenth anniversary of South Carolina Alpha on the uni versity campus.
