"Did you hear about the man who ate bullets, and his hair came out
in bangs?" . . . but then that's old and besides the point, if there is a
point to this column . . . So, I'll just maybe give a brief resume of the
endless happenings on these forty acres of the greater University of
South Carolina.
* Rings On Their Fingers ...
Diamonds, the circulating gem of the nation . have adorned three
comely co-eds here . . . In fact two of the wearers of the band are
sisters . . . Ann Donnelly and Harriett Donnelly . . . They have agreed
to agree to love, honor, and obey, if that's the way epitaph goes . . .
The latest addition is sophomore Shirley Inman.

Clemson Agroooocultural College of Oconee County (they say) always
have something up their sleeves . . . this time it's a cow . . . Accord
ing to diminutive Jimmie J. J. J. J. J. J. Lever and sidewash Marshall
Walker, they are giving a big brawl in honor of the farmer's produce
. . . you know, cow's, horse's,*pig's, chicken's, and -pickled peaches . . .
This Ag Fare ...Fair ...is to be on March 22, 23 ... Not to be out
done by Nancy Coleman, honorary cadet colonel, they got together pic
tures of girl's from different schools and Earl Carroll's Revue of rug
cutter's to select their queen . . . Carolina always comes out on top - ir -
even up there, and Sarah Hughes was named Queen of the Horse Fair
... There's to be dancing, dancing, and dancing . . Say MOOOOOOIlI
* Will-Power . ..
The Sigma Chi's turned out school this past week-end and let lover
John Nash visiL in Charlotte . .. while an apparition itl the form of con
genial Bill Carpenter toured up to Gaffney to test his WILL-power . . -
Harriett Williamson condescended to have as her guest Joe Lever for
the week-end in Florence . . . He looked the situation over . . . only
fault, the situation turned out to be measles . . . Anne Heath is Duke
bound for week-end of dances.

Turnover and turnabout came about last Week in two of Sororities . .

* The Rains Came . .
It was a dreary, gray day, when every male has that five-thirty look,
that some of the local talent decided to visit their brother K. A's. at
Furman for the Formal .. . So with wing's sprouting everywhere, Big
Chief Rain-in-the-Face Jeffries; Sunny, "Celery-Stalks-Along-The-Hi
way," Patterson; Hon. Hud'n Hud'n Aiken, and a couple of squaws went
up mid dew drops and other drops . . . It was some pow-wow . . .

Edith "Measles" Tinsley carried the "plague" with her and went up to

The frats have decided that all good things must come to an end, and
better things should begin . . . K. A's. elected their new officers recently

Trreasury . . . Phi Sigma. Kappa decided along with newv paint . . . the

* NoseGay...
S. A. E's entertained Friday night wvith probably the prettiest han
quet of the year in honor of their Founder's . . . The date's each had
nose gay's of violets . . . the frat's flowers . . . and the favors were pearl
bracelet's with the fraternity insignia on it.
* Boomps-A-Daisy...
Skating is the mainliner this week with the ATO's . . . Tuesday night,
they are planning party at Twin Lakes for all those friends wvho'd rather
sit than stand . . . The K. A. lugs built a small-time barn fire on tl'e
third floor of Ten. 15 . . . and had something termed a "smoker"...
don't know where the smoke came in, but according to yours truly, Frank
H-oskins . . . there was beer, skittles, and 15 boys present . . . Kappa
Sigma forsook Mrs. Sloan's studio, Lake Murray, and went in for a party
at somecbody's ivy-trimmed log cabin Wednesday night . . . The Sigma
Nu's are planning a party tomorrow night . . . location unknowvn . .
time unknown . . . designation unknown . . . refreshments unknown...
First, it's TEDDY BEER's, then a cocktail party, now the Phi Sig's have
forsaken all spring tonics to have a-something-or-other at Lake Murray
Saturday night . .'. the menu is just p)lain milk . . . thats right, just
plain milk.
* Representatives...
Marion Whaley was the official delegate up the Kappa Sigma conclave
at Wake Forest last week-end . . . Next year at this time, the meeting
will be here on our campus . . . Kappa Delta's national officer, Mrs. Ann
Vaughn, arrived yesterday to stay until Monday.

South Carolina on Friday, March 21
to celebrate State day. .Climax of
the day will be the annual rose ban
quet followed by an informal dance.
Eight girls will be initiated during
the afternoon. They are Sybil Lee,

gusta, Georgia; Mary Wright Duck
ett, Whitmire, Annie Hudson, Olive

Initiation will be followed imme
diately by the banquet in the Colum
bia Hotel. Mildred Coe is in charge
of the program. The dance which
begins at 9 p. m., will be in the
gymnasium of the University. Mar

Entertain Visitor
H. G. Wright of Chicago, grand
secretary-treasurer of Delta Sigmal
Pi, commnerce fraternity, visited the
Beta Gammna Chapter of Carolina,
Monday, Mlarch 10. The climax of
his visit was a banquet held at the
Friendly cafeteria that evening.
The fraternity will have ts spring
formal dance Friday nighl, April 4
in the Columbia Hotel. Buster
Spann and his orchestra will furnish
the music.
The officers of the chapter are:

AED Pledges Four
At Spring Banquet
At the Alpha Epsilon Delta pre
med fraternity pledge banquet,
which was held March 5 in the Pal
metto room of the Wade Hampton,
the following new pledges were
taken in: Fred Hiller, Davis Dur
ham, Bill Ward and Vesta Lucas.
Lt.-Colonel, Dr. Schayer was the
main speaker for the occasion. His
topic was "Mobilization and the
Doctor."
' The central idea of the banquet
was expressed by the table arrange
ment and the display used in the
pledging ceremony. The tables were
arranged in the secret order of the
fraternity. The display symbolized
the three fields of Pre-medical
study, Biology, Physics, and Chem
istry.
Dr. Ayers of the Biology depart
ment was elected as the new faculty
adviser.

Square Dance To
Help Aid Britain
In the rollicking spirit of the old
time barn dance, the University stu
dent chapter of the Committee on
Defending the Allies by Allied Aid,
is sponsoring a square dance in the
gym Tuesday, April 1, from 9-1
p. m. Adluh Musical Millers have
been employed to furnish the music.
All proceeds from the benefit will
be used for aiding Great Britain.
Students are asked to dress in barn
dance styles for the occasion. Also,
it is urged by the members of the
chapter that only University stu
dents come.
Dave Baker and Tom McCutch
eon are co-chairmen of the chapter;
George Coleman is secretary and
treasurer; John Mullins is in charge
of the tickets; and Maude B. Chis
holm is publicity chairman.
Script for the dance will be 40
cents.
Annual Song Fest
To Be Next Month
The annual intra-fraternity- soror
ity song fest has been announced for
April 8. Plans for the competition
were announced yesterday -by Clif
ton Strohecker, president of Alpha
Kappa Gamma, the sponsoring or
ganization.
All greek letter groups on the
campus are invited to participate.
The number of participants entered
by each may range from two to
eight, and each group will sing two
selections of their own choice. Sil
ver loving cups will be awarded to
the winning sorority and fraternity.
Grace Kilgore is in charge of the
contest. Proceeds will go to the
AKG central scholarship fund.
The song fest is held annually
each spring. Last year's winners
were Delta Delta Delta and Alpha
Delta Pi, from the sororities; and
Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigima
Chi, from the fraternities.
Frat Has Guest
Maurice G. Gurin, national execu
tive secretary of Phi Epsilon Phi of
Philadelphia, was entertained with
a stag luncheon at the Jefferson
Iotel, Sunday, March 2, by the Car
olina chapter of the fraternity.
Junie Hymson, president, welcomed
Mr. Gurin.

Will Sing Monday
Night At Clemson
The co-ed glee club of the Univer
sity will leave Monday, March 17,
for a three day tour of high schools
and colleges in the upper part of
the State. The itinerary will include
Whitmire, Presbyterian College at
Clinton, and Clemson College on
Monday. Tuesday, programs will
be given at Easley, Greenville,
Greer, and Spartanburg. Wednes
day they will sing in Union and
Winnsboro.
