With Ed Paterson
Or a swan song from a dying duck, or it couldn't happen here, but it
did.. .Last issue we gave formal notice of quitting this stuff, then found
out later that we had been fired, but you can draw your own conclusions
if it goes to print...Anyway you can ask one bespectacled English
prof-sportsman, who gets letters from girls' mothers about me...
McGarity's Mutual Admiration Society now boasts of such august char
acters as two student-body presidents, past and preserit, a former band
leader who drives a blue Buick convertible, and a certain editor who
gets twice as much dough as the Gamecock head man... The only Caro
lina student ever to gain fame via Life Magazine, Mary King, didn't
appreciate the publicity.. .Seems as though she doesn't care to be as
sociated with the militia in a nationwide photo plug... We're told that
while being inquisitive concerning a girl's temperature young Huck
Babcock suffered the eibarrassment of having his water cut off... I n
case you've never noticed, there's better than a slight similarity between
Clemson's fire-haired Mag McGinty and filmdom's Bette Davis... But
the aforementioned lass wouldn't have to look like B. D. to take our
cake... Elf-like Pitking Gross Bell has a new joke which comes to the
point by somebody spelling a certain species of swine backward and
adding the word "funny"... From what we believe Methuslah must have
concocted the joke sometimes during his infancy... Speaking of spelling,
the law school plans to open a course in the subject for the benefit of
seniors like "Boobie" Arrowsmith and J. C. Hare, who couldn't spell well
enough to pass the senior exams . . . Personal note to Willodene: Some
body later informed us that the F. D. affair was completely bogus and
was only intended as the opening of a bull session with you as the focus
point...
Back on the campus for a short visit with friends Tuesday was the
former Betty Glover (we forgot her name) who used to lay 'em in the
aisles back when dramatics were dramatics, and not politics...The
Brooks-Jowitt "Carrot fund" should be dispersed and the money used
to buy a short wave radio set, according to observations and indica
tions... Height of imagination: Why Lou Gilland should kick because a
certain guy didn't dance with her, when the line always forms on the
right in her case . . . Ed Bunker's hand has almost healed but as yet we
have no information for the girls about how much compensation he'll
receive in the damage line for the mishap.. .That December date has
passed and the delectable dame with the natchel blonde hair didn't an
nounce her engagement as per schedul:... Somebody must have )een
kidding... A message to Inez: See, we won't print anything about you
and Isabelle, even if we did know something.. Hester Brown has a new,
but apparently unappreciated flame in Chris Green, who will be glad
to recite the details of his winning ways... Nomination for the nicest
telephone voice of the week goes to Edith P. Breeden, otherwise known
as "Patty," who is one of the nicest girls of the week, or any other
week, as far as we're concerned...
Political opponents and friends of "Rabbi" McCutcheon still delight
in recalling the incident in which the above mentioned was out-witted in
a hospital scene involving P. C.'s Walter Brown and a Brown girl ...
Speaking of triangles, the newest one in these parts has to do with
Francis Farmer, Carlisle Holiday, and a young lady by the name of Edith
out at Columbia College... "Glamour pants "Horger" has deserted his
many women friends for Coach DeMar's pugilistic art... And believe it
or not he is using real boxing gloves and not powder puffs...The re
naissance came into the life of John Haselden who no longer plays
shadow to Sumter's marble venus Lou Nance . . . And K. A.'s Frank
Bryant has taken the place of Claudius Creason in the love life of
Virginia Jackson. . . Here's hoping that won't create a sorority schism...
Blondie Dot Hope sat through a local showing of N. W. M. P. twice,
taking a lesson in how to get a man, but not the "Mountie's" way...
David Fulmer is non-committal in reference to the engagement ring
his girl friend is wearing, even though it is definite that someone else
furnished it...
Wanted column or Santa forgot to bring it: More evening dresses like
the one dainty Kat Edgerton wore to the Jr. Damas shin-dig... Some
body to abolish examinations so we can get more sleep between the
twentieth andl twenty-eighth of this month.. .A dream girl built along the
lines of Marty Harley...-A couple more pix show dates with a Barnwell
Street doll with the initials, A. C.... A permanent job as Mackey King's
press agent with her furnishing the pictures..
In parting, may we leave behind something hitherto unpublished from
our Blue Book which might be of interest to somebody... Understand
that this is merely idealistic and dloes not necessarily represent the true
state of affairs nor scharacters of gals mentioned.. It has to do with
recommendations for dlating: For tavern tipping, Patty Breeden, Anne
Wolfe, Polly Wolfe, Pat Jeter, Norine Huey. ..For canal locking and
air porting: Molly Heath, Two Kings and another "K", Emily Johnson,
Marty Harley, Frances Smith, Margie McSweeney and Lou Gilland .. .
To dream about: Katie Beaty, Mary Hull Kaminer, Joyce Hetzel, Bev
erley Thorne (she with the joke repertoire), Emily Wolfe, and Georgia's
own Peg Williams. .. Hands off! Monopoly! Maxine Forbes, Louise Fry,
Eloise Oliver, Paulette West, Jane Wylly, and Make Warlick...
Famous last words: "Here lies Pat in the dirt he loves so well..
He got along fine until be told the pub board to go to--somebody else
to write this stuff"... 'Tis all forever, with love...

No Flu Epidemic
Says Doctor Law
Students Should Report
T Infirmary At First
Sign In Any Illness
There is no immediate danger of
a flu epidemic at Carolina, Doctor
Law said yesterday. The number
of cases is as yet comparatively
few.
Doctor Law pointed out'that the
danger was in not reporting to the
infirmary at the first symptoms. If
students would come to the infirm
ary at once, they can usually be re
leased within 48 hours.
The increase in the number of
cases began only in the last three
days, Doctor Law said. There are
about 4 or 5 cases reporting each
day, but the same number are re
leased from the infirmary.

the tiAe is ripo' and we declare ourselves as the defenders of
real student self-government, invite the- support of loyal Caro
lina students and defy the machines to do their worst."
Regardless of the outcome of the 1941 elections, the Non
Partisan league will continue, the Inombers say. Nominations
for student body and class officers in future years will be made
in the same way as they are made now.
Leaguers Want Open Issues
The leaguers declare themselves as believers in open politics
and open issues. "We will present our convictions and plat
forms of the future just as clearly as we are stating them to
day," a freshman member declared last night. "We stand with
the students and want them to stand with us. We kant the league
to grow into a harmonious campaign organization and be
come one of Carolina's cherished traditions."
Members Realize Odds
One of the current leaders of the movement said that the
league realizes that the odds are against it in the coming elec
tion. "But," he declared, "Louisiana finally broke up the in
famous Huey Long ring and we can break up this present ma
chine age."
