IN With Ed Patterson Last week yours truly slaved diligently to send a column up to the Clemson weakly newspaper. Now it's our time to rest, for the editor of the aforementioned rag, Jimmie J. Lever, Jr., Columbia's own has kindly consented to take over our job for this issue. You'll find a little bit of our work at the end of Mr. Lever's column, which reaches us in the form of a very open letter. Pat: For me the Carolina-Clemson classic still excites a carnival of emotions...like being in love with a U. S. C. co-ed, you never know how you feel or where you stand. Yep, since the grammar school days when I used to swipe hair hows from Adelyne Lipscomb (glitterous she). Virginia Hodges, Mary Hamby, et al... aided and abetted by Charlie Moorefield, Nevin Betts, and Kit Fitzimmons, composing that little gang of terrors that roanied McMaster's Wilds, I had sung the praises of the Gamecocks, and spouted the strongest, most vindicative wrath at the furriners from the hills "somewhere around Anderson"-I didn't know where Anderson was either. The loyalty remained with the Birds 'till about mid October of my rat year here when I awoke to the realization that it was time to dispatch a few heckling letters to friends at Carolina. Even now, I, like a couple thousand other loyal Tigers, feel much as did your great President J. Rion McKissick, when on one occasion he promised to our revered Dr. Enoch Sikes, and Clemson, the friendship and support of Carolina on every day of the year save one-that a sultry Indian summer day. I recall the days, Pat, when I sat on the end of the Carolina bench and "kept bats" for Bill Laval's diamond teams...and remember how I yelled my lungs out for Grayson Wolfe or Hugh Stoddard or some of the other Carolina greats to put one by those stupid Tigers and the day John Munn slapped one up against the gym to break up the ball game... them days is gone forever. Remember the Tompkins, Dana Henderson, Buck Smith and those birds?.. .Well "us Carolina folks" were riding high then. I can't say that I know any dirt about Carolina folk for the only ones I know are virtuous souls like Dan Hollis, Holmes Dreher, Bill McGarrity... statesmen all. Then there are the orators like the Baker boys and Tom McCutcheon.. .you know, the great keynoter, John Foard, W. P. Baldwin and a host of others. I could draw on memory for men like Sid Duncan, U. S. A.... I wanna be a captain too, pappa, but there ain't no stripes on this sleeve.. .and John McCutcheon, and Julian Bradsher. And, oh, a co-ed or two, Frances Allison (she wouldn't snake for the world) and Lib Bird (she who talks history and euologizes John C. Calhoun on valuable late date time) and Mackey King, we all know Mackey... Speaking of Mackey Pat, we hear authentically that after you've wasted away quite a bit of time trailing after her, you've finally awaken to the fact that a guy up at Northwestern, Willie Brockington by name, has a secret monopoly on that territory. l1ut you aren't the first sucker, nope, not by a long shot, but we can't help but from wondering if that won't be good news to Jack Brown who is currently doing time in Uncle Sam's air corps... Then there's Emily Johnson, ultra-attractive fugitive from Winthrop and no kin to Olin D., and Clemson's own Maggie McGinty, redhaired and soft checked (How do you know, Lever? Pat), and Peggy R-ailey (no comment) and Virginia Cardwell and those Flinn glamour gals... all saintly and sweet. Pat, it simply wouldn't be ethical to gossip about these and other folk we know. Say have you heard about Galloway and Kilgore's disappear ing act? We want you to know that the corps will move in emmasse on Willis Beall and the social cabinet's dance, if advance reports and past experiences are any indication of the calibre. The hospitality his group has already exhibited is the talk of the town this week. Ed, I'm glad that we don't have the minor civil wars that I was "privileged" to witness a few years back... they're so foreign to the spirit of our rivalry, so diverse from the way we folk (Clemson and Carolina) like to do our feuding. I'm glad we've made progress in "civilizing" the people who followv our games. And please, save me a co-ed-intellectual, thrilling, or otherwise-and don't forget to hold me a seat in law class next year. I'll be there if Clemson releases me (via graduation) and Uncle' Sam doesn't draft me, and thee. With love to everybody from Carolina from everybody at Clemson, Jimmie. ..To many on the outside looking in, wve'll say that all of this stufi written here is written in a lighter vein and does not necessarily rep resent the life here at Carolina... Connie Morton and Harry Hinson, co-presidents of the "Hydun-Hydun" club announce that the next meet ing of the organization will be held at the mess hall next Monday... members are requested to bring lard bucket lids to serve as a steering wheel... Pardon us while we try to figure out what the matter is. Little Virginia Fair should commercialize on her poetry reading (via telephone) talents... Speaking of telephones, our nomination for the nicest telephone voice of the week goes to diminuitive Majorie Mc Sweeney, who certainly can take a dirty crack in swell form...Triple D cutie Ann Adams is worried over the status of the affections of the guy up in Virginia. 6'31 .Main St. Columbia. 5 & Absolute Pictures N Those Wi3 Relations Club Meets Thursday In Sims College Group Will Discuss For Eastern Affairs And American Status The International Relations Club reorganized last we,ek and will hold its next neeting Thursday, Oct. 31, 8 p. n., in the music room of Sims college. Charles Horton was elected presi dent for the new session, Bernie Bass was named vice-president, and Ed Cushman is the new secretary treasurer. Dr. R. H. Wienefeld remains the faculty adviser of the group. The reorganization meeting was attended by a small enthusiastic crowd, who will compose a nucleus around which the club will be bmIt this year. Those present besides the officers were Guss Belisiary, Louise Bradley, -lennig Cohen, Holmes Dreher, Beck George, Walter Taylor, Thelma Thompson, and Marion Trotti. A panel discussion is planned for the next meeting on The Far East ern Situation and America's Po sition therein. The 1. R. C. is sI)onsored in colleges and univer sities all over the nation by the Carnegie Peace Foundation. A state wide convention of all I. R.
