Bamstei Can See Only One Of Ma Those Backing ( Among the outstanding services the BAM (buck-a-month) club is offering its members is an oppor tunity to see all Carolina football games whether they were present at the time of the game or not. It is simply that the BAM club along with its many other services rendered to the loyal Carolina sup porters who make up its member ship, takes moving pictures of every Carolina game and in turn the mov ies are put at the disposal of any member or group of BAM mem bers. The purpose of these movies is to give Carolina supporters who are interested in the team and who were unable to attend, the chance to see Carolina in action. Movies to BAM members are free of charge and only members are allowed to use them. This is, however only one feature that is proving to be very popular with BAM clubsters. Aside from this, the club offers ticket prefer ence to all Carolina games. If at anytime a club member wants a ticket for a particular game .1l he has to do is to contact Mr. Tatum Gressette, Secretary of the club and he will take care of the rest, secur ing the best seats available. A BAM section for members only, will be set off at all games. News letters of interest to members as to the progress of the team will be sent out from Coach Enright weekly. The BAM club is not merely to obtain money for athletes, but it is a club for the betterment of Caro lina not only athletically but in many other respects. Members are constantly on the .lookout for new students who are interested in at tending the University of South Carolina and are always backing the University in everything it at tempts. Already the club has one thou sand thirty-seven members. Presbyterian Anklets Offer Carolina Frosh Next Opposition, Oct. 12 Undaunted by the 20-0 setback at the hands of the Georgia Bullpups the Biddies of the University of South Carolina are settling down to work in preparation for their sec ond tilt with the Presbyterian Col lege yearlings here October 12. Coach Jonsn head brantruster of the Bird frosh attributes the loss of the opener to insufficient time to polish up on the Notre Dame sys tenm of offense. "The defense held up pretty good, but we were lacking in a running offensive and pass pro tection" says the frosh mentor. It is a bit early in the season to determine the calibre of team the freshmen will have this year, how ever Johnson hopes to have his charges in shape for the remaining games of the 1940 schedule. The biddies have yet to encounter the freshman aggregations of P. C., Clemson, Citadel, and Furman, hop ing to repeat last year's string of victories over these teams. In addition to this honor, Kit has been manager of the University baseball team and has won his letter in boxing. Fencers First Meeting To Be Held Monday Fencing Is Entering Its Third Year At Carolina; Reese Sees Fair Team Coach Romulus Reese has an nounced that the first meeting of the fencing team will be held in Mr. Crawford's office in the field house on Monday, October 7, at 4:30 P. M. All students interested in fencing are requested to be there at that time. Fencing as an organized sport on the University campus will be enter ing its third year since its revival. In the halycon days of '27, '28, and '29 the Bird swordsmen fought their way to the Southern Conference Championship. Romulus Reese, who is now coaching the varsity, led the Gamecocks to these triumphs. Four veterans from last year's team will be back to see action again this year. Paul Hulher, Abe Grossman, Arthur Spitz, and Jack Reese have all carried the Gamecock colon, inoitrdeit compe tition. Atkins, a veteran from last season's team who wvas heavily counted upon, will not be able to report for this year's squad. Coach Reese says he expects to turn out a. consistent hard fighting team, but it is a bit early yet to know exactly what he has. Last year the Gamecock's only match was with North Carolina, South Atlantic fencing conference champs, and were able to take two matches before bowing to their more experienced opposition. Soldiers may secure tickets at special rates from the headquarters of the Eighth and Thirtieth di visions, Rawl announced. He reported that the sections be tween the 25 yard lines on the Caro lina side of the field have been sold out, except for a few single seats, and seats in the lower row. The army, however, will nLt be on the Carolina side but will be seated with ' the Georgia section. Rawl said that there were still many good seats on the Bulldog side of the field. More than 500 tickets have been received at the University of Geor gia in Athens, and block orders have been received from other Georgia t localities. Reserve seat tickets for the opening game are selling at $2.20, and $1.50 for general admis- a sion. Gamecock alumni from many sec tions of the south are expected to a attend the game, as homecoming c day will be featured with the foot ball game. N Rawl stated that only seats from the goal line to the end zone remain for the South Carolina-Clemson game which will be played here October 24. Rawl plans to erect 2,500 bleacher seats behind the south-east goal posts, however, to I help to accommodate the large crowd. Tickets for this game are selling at $2.40 for all seats. Birds Journey To Pittsburgh Next Saturday If the Georgia Bulldog doesn't scatter too many feathers up and down Carolina stadium, Rex En right's Gamecocks will entrain for Pittsburgh next week to do grid iron battle with Duquesne Univer sity. Barring injuries and other jinxes, Enright hopes his team wvill hit high gear against the Dukes. But reports from the Smokey City campus paint a doleful picture for Gamecock fans. The Dukes, wvith the best team in a number of years, are hoping and thirsting for revenge for the 7-0 de feat the Enright Riders of 1938 handed them in Columbia. Several lads who played as sopho mores against the Birds will be in the line-up next week.
