PONZY HAPPENINGS
When you call tenement 2, stand at least a foot away from the lit
tie black box, because the pass-word "Guess who?" comes forth in
clarion accents and the worst part of it is that you usually do have to
guess, sometimes with dire results. I knowl
* Kappa Sig@ attention! Who says we don't print what you give us?
Maybe we shouldn't, but we'll try anything once. (Well . . almost.) We
hear that you recently set some sort of record for the year in initiation.
Ten in number, they were: Jim McLeod, Marion Whaley, Pel Signeious,
Bob Barr, Sam Russell, Luke McCutchen, Lionelle Wells, John Larri
more, Charles Lawrimore, and Bill Chapman. (If the spelling is wrong,
it ain't our fault. It's your fraternity bro., Walt Taylor who gave us the
info.)
I This is a real society item. The newest bit of glorified carbon seen
around the campus is the one that shines on THE digit of Blanche Har
relson. It's from a grad of dear ole Citadel, (pronounced Citadel).
* And if this- ain't a heck of a situation. The rebel team that won
the annual softball battle between the Rebs and the Yanks, had more
Yankee members than we like to think about. In fact, practically the
whole darn team was Yanks. Sumpin oughta be done about it. It's
treason, thas what it isl
BRAND BRANDS US
Elinor "Fuzzy" Brand wants it known that we lied(l) in our state
ment of last issue. We feel that what we said, (as usualy,is unimportant.
It sounded good, anyway, didn't it?
* Ditto Clemson as we said about Citadel, (still pronounced Citadel)
will see Lib Hughes on its pastures and barnyards this week-end. Patsy
Jeter and Irene Mars skipped off last week-end to Davidson to the
dances; and Mary DesPortes and John Smith went to the dances ip at
Chapel Hill.
The parties thrown in honor of the KD's last week-end by the other
sororities certainly saved me a lot of cash. The ADPi's started things
off with a tea at Louise Efird's. It was the first place I have ever seen
that they actually forced the food on me. They know better now. The
Tri Delta suffered the same lesson when they threw the feed Friday. It
was a great luncheon. The Chi O's went fishing early in the morning to
get the shrimp for the breakfast they gave Sunday. And so I ate, and
ate well for three days. When the Pi Phi's give their picnic for the KD's
on Friday, I'll eat again.
A new Greek letter society takes its place on the campus. Altho
it has no charter to make it official, it probably is the largest national
fraternity. Alpha Sigma Sigma, (you're right, hee, haw) will hold its
first social event of the year Friday night when the local chapter with
membership largely from tenement 18, burns hot dogs at . (Your
guess is as good as theirs). Homer Roof is chief high magistrate.
SOFTBALL STARTS
0 The PiKA's won the first intramural softball game they have
played at Carolina, and are so proud of it that they have arranged a
party to celebrate. Hubert Harmon is in charge of liquid refreshment.
Same guy explained the absence of news with, "We make it a point not
to let anything happen." Well, guess it's up to us to make some for them
if we have to invent it. So here goes.
0 Two nice gals were Mary Jane Donovan and Helen Devine, from
New York and Boston. They played hookie from school, Trinity Col
lege in Washington, to be guests at the Sigma Nu (lance and banquet.
The funniest thing of the afternoon at the Tri Delt luncheon was the
mixture of broad A's and "You all's", when the gals exchanged ideas
on men, clothes, and sun tans, which we had and they dlidn't. They also
saw their first track meet when they saw the Clemson farmhands win
over Carolina. Or should we mention that?
* The most original idea of the week was the Sigma Nu's singing
telegram of congratulations to the KD's. The telegraph boy, the one male
in a room of one hundred women, turned green and white. Do you
blame him?
