Withering News By Jeanne Withers * GOLF TEAM SENIORS TO VICTORY Equipped with high boots, slickers and umbrellas, the Gamecock golf team swam through their first match of the season. Instead of eagles and birdies, the boys concentrated on killing snakes. Huck Bab cock came out on top with 97, he understands the ways of snakes, guess that's why. By the way; h8w 'bout some gallery for the team? It's a shame to show the other schools how Jittle we're interested in our teams. 0 The shysters, (pardon us), barristers have chosen their leaders for the coming year. Said officers are: president, C. G. Brown; vice president, Matthew Poliakoff; secretary-treasurer, George Shepard Yeldell; historian, Miss Myrtle Holcomb. 0 AT LAST-the and mighty juniors and seniors have decided to have their feed this coming Wednesday, at Harvey's. Better not count on it too much, though, they'll probably dig up some clause or reason for changing it. 0 There is no news from the S.A.E.'s this week. Said Jimmie Fant, "Everything we've done is bad." Sed Mrs. Childs, "Ditto". * APOLOGIES GALORE We apologize profusely to Willodine Rion and Jack Davis for leav ing them out of the list of people going places last week-end. Jack is absolutely crushed because we forgot that he was going to the Citadel and Willodine is suing us for neglect because we didn't say that she was going to P. C. The Indians are coming! Huck Babcock found them hidden in his pappy's house last Saturday night, and did he give them ******l Wool wool 0 The star of Dark'Tower, Jack McCutchen, is the new president of the Tri Deltas. Staffing for her are: vice-president, Julia McLain; recording secretary, Jane Perry; corresponding secretary, Mary Ham by; treasurer, Ann Belser. 0 SCORE FOR REESE, o-0 Jack Reese missed a swell oppArtunity at the Phi Sig treasure hunt. The prize was a kiss from his date, Josephine Lindsey, but the twerp didn't collect. Lots of guys I know sure would like to change places with him. The hunt turned out to be a surprise birthday party for Elliot McCants, who is, let me see-yes, that's just about right. 0 The last part of the Sigmachiomega combination has elected new officers to take over where the old ones left off. Madame President is Marie Ulmer; the gal who takes over when she isn't there and who beats the pledges into real Chi O's is Bessie King; the Scribbler is Irene La Borde; and Holder of the Purse Strings is Dorothy Elliott. The new president and some of the members will attend the bi-ennial convention at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, the third week in June. * TRAGEDY IN KAPPA SIGS Our reporter in the Kappa Sigs, Walter Taylor, was unable to per form his duty this week, because some nasty ole man knocked one of his teeth out in intra-mural boxing. Walter was gallantly defending the honor of dear old Kappa S. when the guy clipped him, leaving four men in the semi-finals. The active ZTA's gave their sister alumnae a buffet supper, Tues day in the sorority hangout. The 28 of March will be held their formal, unless something happens like at the S.A.E. BANQUET, and then the gals will probably have to have a pot luck. What we can't see is the difference between a formal and a sweater swing. It's certainly much better than dancing at a hangout run by a mobster. At least milk isn't served at a school dance. * The Pi Phi's twere busy with pre-initiation week, they've been throwing parties all over the place for the gals to be initiated, Mary Simpson, Mimi Nininger, Betty Nininger, Mary Free, Eris Ringham, Irene Gillespie, Sara Morrison, Dorodhea Crouch and Pauline Womack. Tuesday they concerned themselves with bridge and Wednesday they flocked to the cinema. (By the way, our vote for the most popular man of the week, Quasimodo. All the campus is talking about him.) Saturday, after initiation, there'll be a feed at the Columbia and a dance at the Jefferson. The proudest initiate was Mary Free when she won a pink Easter bunny at the bridge party. 0 The Delta Zeta's are also on a party spree. Their rose banquet will disappear after initiation on Tuesday night. That night the new initiates will dance in the sorority room with their sisters. The new Lamp bearers are: Jeraldine Wooley, Elaine Boyston, and Frances Preacher. ghHENRY'S NEW GAL T'he songbird from Clinton who is the newvest addition to Henry Westbrook's musical family, Millie Whitten, is a bit of all right. She made her debut at the S.A.E. banquet (we forgot, we aren't to mention that. So sorry.) The gals had to keep a strong hand on their dates when she sang "My Man". * "Itiller" Durham's gal gave him the slip Wednesday night and ran away with his room-mate, Billie Mahon. Wonder if Billie was as tired as he is after his dates with Kittum Belser. Killer is losing that old1 appeal, it seems. Oh, yeah? *Sammy Reynolds is the source of this quote. EUla Payne says that Graham "Pat" Patton had a date with her, but so far he isn't feel ing any Payne. Does she mean heart or poison oak? * The Phi Sigma Kap's announce to all who are interested, that the Finns and Russians have made a peace treaty. This is their contribu tion for this week's news. They also elected officers. President, Arthur Spitz; vice-president, Hugh Listen; secretary, Jimmie Tomlin son; treasurer, Arnold "Sarnoff" Muir, (him and Karloff). 4eauIia vOlRS YaL7dUeShe Top Shoe is i Tan and White, Blue and White and Black and White $8.75 Shoe at left is of Black Gaberdine Patent Trim, and Blue Gaberdine Kid .
