From there the Club moves into North Carolina for recitals in Charlotte, Red Springs, and Max ton. They will return to South Car olina for a final performance in Bennettsville, and then back to Co lumbia. Already the Club has given per formances in Columbia on several occasions. On the 10th of Novem ber it sang over station WIS. The occasion was Founders' Day, and the song was the Alma Mater. Also in December, the Club ap peared at the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, and on Jan uary 10th it sang several numbers at the laying of the cornerstone for the new University Library. There was also a program presented be fore at state-wide meeting of the leaders of the Civilian Conservation Corps. In addition to the appearance scheduled on the week's tour, other performances are planned. First of all, the Club will be presented at Columbia College on the 13th of March. On the next day it will be heard in Bamberg and on the day after that at Allendale. Sings on Radio Then again on the 19th the Club will sing over radio station WIS on a half-hour program presented by the Afternoon Music Club of Columbia. And after the tour, there will be more performances in chapel, at Commencement, and at various other University ceremonies. In order to be ready to "hit the trail" on time, the boys and Pro fessor Williamson have been prac ticing from three to five hours every week. and have built up a reper toire of considerable size. "We still have a lot of work to do," said Di rector Williamson yesterday, "but there is still plenty of time and I feel sure we will be in excellent shape by the end of March." Woods, chairman of the Student Union Board, 15 new books have been added to the University's ren tal library. Commenting on some of the new literature, Professor Woods said that "Hugger-Mugger in the Lou vre" by Elliot Paul is the best mys tery he has ever read. "A Sea Island Lady" by Francis Griswold is one of the most popular books now in the library. "This book is also in the big library," said Uncle Billy, "but so- many students asked for it that I added it to my collection. The book's action took place at Beaufort." Lloyd C. Douglas' "Dr. Hudson's Secret Journal" is the follow up story of "The Magnificent Obses sion", a book which attracted much attention several years ago. Two other fast selling books re cently placed in the renta, library are "The Tree of Liberty" by Eliza beth Page and Rene Belbenoit's "Hell on Trial." C. Saturday, February 10, to face the swordsmen from the University of North Carolina, coach Romulus Reese said today. The Tarheel -team is one of the strongest in the nation, having won all its meets this year. The Game cocks' will enter as the underdogs, Iut are expected to give the North Carolina squad a real fight. The Birds main hopes are Cap tain Reese and Artie Spitz, both sof whom have been on the teani for two years. O.heis making the trip are Ed Atkinson, Carl Atkins,. Paul Holscher, Abe Grossman, and J. B. Witherspoon, manager. The two teams met last in 1929. The present South Carolina coach, Romulus Reese, fought for the Gamecocks then and was Southern Conference champion for three years, 1927-29. The 1940 team will be faster than the Southern Conference champions of 1927, and will use Italian and Fre nch offense and defense.
