There will be a supper before the dance at 8:30 for members of the club and their dates at the University high school cafeteria. This is the second German club dance of the school year, the first be ing after the Clemson-Carolina foot ball classic in October. Coeds Sponsor Girl-Break Dance The second girl-break dance of the year will be this Saturday, 9 p. m. to 12, sponsored by the Co-ed Associa tion of the University of South Caro lina. Henry Westbrook and his or chestra will furnish music for the occasion. , Norine Huey is chairman of the dance committee and has urged "less girls to come stag and more to bring dates as the last co-ed dance showed a decided deficiency of boys." Ad mission to the dance is only 25 cents. There will not be any no-breaks. Rachel Spivey, Grace Kilgore, Pat Jeter, Marion Glenn, make up the floor committee. Peggy Bailey, president of the Co ed Association, has invited several faculty members to chaperon the dance. YW Entertains NYA Girls The Y. W. C. A. cabinet of the University of South Carolina will give a party Tuesday, December 19 at 7 p. m. for the N. Y. A. girls in the old Chicora College. Rannah H-eyward, president of the "Y",, an niounced that this is the first year that the cabinet has sponsored a Christmas party. The freshman, sophomore, and ju~niior "Y" groups each have separate activities this Christmas. Miriam Marshall, adviser for the freshmen, has not announced a deni nite project for her group. How ever, plans were discussed for each girl to help a child at the clinic for Christmas. Louise Efird, adviser for the soph omores, announced that they will give a party at the Carolina Orphanage for 18 girls. Each girl will receive a gift and Santa Claus favors made from apples. Games and prizes will also be attractions. The junior group, with Jacqueline McCutchen president, will prepare a Christmas basket for a poor family. In former years, all Y. W. C. A. girls at Carolina have worked in one project together. This year the or ganization, working in its separate classes, will contact more needy peo pIe. Sleigh Or Packard For Santa Claus? Debaters Answer! "Resolved: That Santa Claus shall change his sicigh for a Packard car as a means of transportation !" That as the topic of the annual Christ. mas debate, sponsored by the Eu phrosynean literary society at the University of South Carolina, Wed nesday, December 13, with members of the Hypatian society as guests. Lib Bird and Margaret Smith from H-ypatian, upheld the affirmative side of the question, advocating the change, and Irene LaBorde and Dor othea Crouch, fronm Euphrosynean, upheld the negative side and "stuck to the sleigh", as they stated. No decision was given on the debate, but the subject was open for discussion after the debaters advanced their ar guments. A social hour was enjoyed after the program. Over 55 persons were present to take part in the discussion. This "get-together" of the two so cieties is an annual affair. Last year the Hypatians entertained the group and another such Christmas query was offered for debate. Mary Cecile Brabham, president of Euphrosynean, presided at the meet ing. Junior Damas Gives Dance Next Year Members of Junior Damas, Uni versity of South Carolina dance or ganization, have been urged to pay their initiation fee and dance assess ment before the holidays so that they may hand in their bid list at this time. There will be no time after the holidays to send out these bids as the dance will be January 5, the Fri day after school re-opens. Suzanne Wilson made the an nouncenent at a special meeting of the club and asked those who had not brought their money to give it to Lil Boulware, treasurer, by Wednesday, December 20. Williamsons Honor Concert Pianist With Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. H-ugh Williamson, directors of the music department at the University of South Carolina, en tertained Katherine Bacon, concert pianist who played at Drayton Hall, Sunday, December 10, with a lovely dinner party. Invited to meet Miss Bacon were: Dean and Mrs. Fred Parker and Miss Margaret Richards, all of Columbia College music department. The Chi Omegas were given a turkey dinner at their Christmas party Thurs day night by the Mothers' Club. On the same night Mrs. Rice enter tained the boys of the football team, their dates, and the coaches at a dance in the gym from 9 to 12:00. The Sigma Nus' annual Christmas party will be Sunday at the Harris' place on Lake Murray. Fletcher Spigner is to be their Santa ClaVs and after presents have been given supper will be served. To be different, the Pi K As are making their party on Saturday night a "reversal" party. The boys are to be dressed as girls and the girls as boys. The Z T A's are also having their annual party on Monday evening in the sorority room. All the actives, pledges, and alumnae are invited. 0 The S A E alumni will give the local chapter a dance on Tuesday night from 9:00 to 1:00 at the Columbia Hotel. On Thursday night the A T O's entertained at Lake Murray for Fay DesPortes, a graduate of last year, who is spending the holidays here. The K As alqn had a visitor, Dr. Neville Isbelle, their province commander, who is pro fessor of chemistry at Wake Forest. He was here on Saturday and had supper with the chapter on that night. Their Christmas party was last night at the Caprician Club. Monday night after a joint meeting the Chi Omegas were entertained with a wiener roast at Irene LaBorde's home. The Z T A National Field Secretary, Miss Ella Waters, visited the local chapter for several days. She was honor guest at a Pan Hellenic tea given Sunday afternoon at Sims College and several in formal parties have been given for Miss Waters. Phi Kappa Sigma had as their guest last week James Polatty from Washington. He was given a party Saturday night in the Chatterbox of the Jefferson Hotel before the Kappa Sig formal. The formal was attended by the district grand master of Kappa Sig, W. C. Steagall, from Spartanburg, and five Kappa Sigs from Wofford. There were. 120 alumni, actives, pledges, and dates attending the banquet. NEWLY INITIATED The Tri Deltas initiated Jane Perry, Julia McLain, Mary Thomp son, and Anne Adam& oii Tucsday night. Martha Smith will be initiated into Delta Zeta Monday night after which the actives and pledges are being entertained at a Christmas party by Mr. and Mi-s. Addison, patrons of the chapter. Z T A initiated Mildred Taylor last Thursday, and Evelyn Burnette and Thelma Gardner on the 13th. Supper was enjoyed after both initiations. ( CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS 0This week-end several girls are going to the Christmas Hop at the Citadel. They are Ann McKay, Jane Blizzard, Bessie Heyward, Peggy Lollis, Dot Ehrlich, Betty Lumsden, Anne Heath, Mary Cecile Brabham, and Lucile Crosby. "Tut" Douglas is attending the Ring dance at Clem son. Jack Davis, Cliff Brown, Kitty Bird, and Emily Wolfe will visit Jimmie Fant in Lockhart on Saturday. Adelyn Lipscomb is going to Alabama, and Lydia Lee will be in Sumter. Lula and C. G. Bass will attend the opening of "Gone With The Wind" in Atlanta on December 15th. Irene LaBorde will have as her guest for the week-end, Martha Newman, our former Society Editor. Irene, Martha, and Rachel Spivey are going down to Brunswick, Ga., to attend Eva Abbott's wedding on Saturday, December 30. During the holidays Ted Wingate and "Whoot" Little will go to two of the last football games of the season. Ted is going to the Orange Bowl game at Miami, and "Whoot" to the Cotton Bowl game at New Orleans. Some of the Phi Kappa Sigmas are plan ning to attend the Beta Sigma Delta dance at Winthrop on Christmas night. They will visit Ted Wingate. Anne Belser is going to Charleston next week-end for the coming-out dances, and after Christmas she will visit in Tallahassee, Florida. Episcopal Group Eats And Carols In keeping with the season, a Christmas song-fest was the program had after the regular supper of the Episcopal student group last Wed nesday evening, December 13. David Parker played several pieces on the organ and then the entire group joined .in the singing of carols, led by Rev. Louis C. Melcher, rector of Trinity church. Over 100 students from the Uni versity of South Carolina were pres ent to take part in the caroling. This was the last meeting befoe ille Christmas holidays, which begin next Wednesday, December 20. Plans for programs for the next year will be made at a meeting of the program committee, to be called by David Parker, president of the group, the first of next wveek. The libraries of U.
