CAMPUS COURSE BY KATHERINE HINES * Well, the long-anticipated Thanksgiving holidays are over, and so are all the exciting football games we've had so much fun attending. Don't think everybody's going to take it easy until Christmas, though, because there will be lots of parties and dances before then, and one of the biggest will be- the senior Damas tonight at the Jefferson Hotel. And it certainly will be lovely, with the gorgeous dresses all the girls are planning to wear. CATCHING UP g There's a lot of news to be caught up on from list week, so here's some of it. Jimmy Wilson, Ed Parler, and Fred Quinn were among those who visited the University of Georgia for our game there. They were entertained by the Lambda chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. Sonic Sigma Chis went over for the game, too, Fred Holler, Manning Dryer, and Henry Thomas. Incidentally, the Sigma Chis have lately pledged two more boys, Harry Woodhurst and Jack Fuller. The Pi K. A.'s have a couple of new pledges, too, Frank Smith of Easley and G. C. Kirby of Columbia. They were given a party the week before Thanksgiving at Bob Schwinn's cottage on Lake Murray. Phi Sigma Kappa had a dance at the Morris Lumpkin Legion Hut on Tuesday of the sanie week, and the Phi Sigma Kappa actives were given a party by the pledges at David Fulmer's home on Monday. 'Last Tuesday night the Pi Kappa Phis had a party at Ernest Lent's house. * Tle Zeta Tau Alphas entertained at a drop-in in their sorority room at Sims College on Saturday afternoon after the Mianii-Carolina game. The party was in honor of the girls of the Miami chapter of the sorority who were in town for the game. Lib Holley pledged Zeta Tau Alpha Monday night. THANKSGIVING DOINGS 0 Over the holidays Elinor Brand had a house party at her home in Florence. Marion Wilder and Norma Niggel both said they had a wonderful time. Amelia Arthur and Irene Mars were at Annapolis for the Thanksgiving hop, and "Baby" Brunson and Martha Young had a delightful trip to Washington, D. C. Frances Allison went to Wil lianshurg and Richmond, Va. Anne Vaughn visited in Richmond, too. Bessie Moore went up to dances at Princeton, and Virginia Ligon and Betty Hughes visited in Florida, Virginia at St. Augustine and Betty at her sister's. In spite of the time of the year and the weather, Helen Walker, "Snag" Legare, Frank Jordan, and Doug McKay were among those enjoying a house party at Edisto Beach during the holidays. Mary Elise Livingston and Louise Efird went to Davidson for dances there. C. G. Bass and Osborne Rhodes went to Myrtle Beach, Tricksey Owens visited in Charlotte, and Tuck Rawl went to Lexington. Carl Cone went to Brunson, Bubsie Farmer to Allendale, and Bub Harper and Grover Bowers to Estill. Thelma Gardner and Evelyn Burnette went home to Hartsville. Julia Smith visited in Lake City, and Frances Huggins visited Helen Anderson in Summerville. Natalin Lifchez had as her guests over the weekend Sylvia Ness and Jean Tucker. Pat Rutledge attended the Thanksgiving hop at the Citadel and Martha Dukes visited in Greenwood. Elouise Oliver spent Thanksgiving with Lill Dowling at her home in Brunson, and Mickey Harris attended a dantc,: at Datesburg and Dot Park went to Tinimmionsville Sara Rushton visited Harriet Williamson in Florence. 0 Besides all these a lot of people saw the Clemson-Furman game at Greenville Saturday. Sonic of those who went vere Betty Barnett, Mary Free, Betty Welchel, Polly Cely, and Adelyn Lipscomb. GADABOUTS 0 Now for some of this week's plans. Pete Blackwell is going to New York City for a few days' visit. Jim Ravenel will attend the U. of Georgia-Ga. Tech game in Atlanta. Lavinia Lyles will visit friends at Converse, and Sally Nichols and Joan Faysoux are going to Winns boro. George Coleman and Tom McCutchen leave this week for the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia. Elinor McCants is also planning to go, as is Margaret Blackwell. Margaret will also attend a few of the pre-nuptial parties being given for Dotty Smith in Washington. Dotty, you remember, was at Carolina last year, and is to be married sonietime soon., FUTURE FROLICS 0 Next Wednesday night will be the Sigma Chi pledge dance at the F.lks' Club, and on the same night will be the Commerce Cabaret at Stewarts Hall, which, with its original idea should be very entertaining. Chi Omega chapter of Kappa Sigma will celebrate its tenth anniversary on this campus with a formal (lance at the Jefferson Hotel on Saturday night, December 9, from 9 to 12. The Phi Kapps are planning to have a (lance sometime between now and Christmas, andl the Phi Sigma Kappas are already miaking plans for their Silver-Magenta Ball, which is to be held near the beginning of the seennd semester. TIhis is their formal dance and will be preceed by a banquet. T1hie (late wvill be announced later. * SPECIAL! The cabaret this year will feal dancing, singing, and musical t be master of ceremonies. Among the performers in the floor* show will be Wallie Ilinson and Johnnie Campbell, dancers; Dot Bax ter and Dumas Turner, songsters, and Louise Davis, also a vocalist. Miss Davis is a former starlet of the Hotel DeSoto. A four course dinner beginning at eight o'clock will open the night's festivities. The floor show will be staged simultaneously with the din ner. Dancing will follow the feast. A royal purple and old gold color scheme, colors of Delta Sigma Pi, will be carried out in the decoration of the banquet room. Proceeds from the cabaret will go into a scholarship fund which the commerce fraternity supports. Students desiring to make reserva tions for the occasion are urged to do so promptly since attendance is limited. Tickets can be secured from any member of Delta Sigma Pi. Ad mission is 50 cents per person. Morse Addresses Episcopal Group Doctor Josiah Morse addressed the Episcopal student group of the Uni versity of South Carolina on the topic "What Effect This War Will Have On Future Generations". The talk was had after the supper Wed nesday night, November 29. "Laws of the universe," Dr. Morse said, "controls us all. As we sow, thus will we reap!" This is a result of the last war, andl he added, the same results will come of this one, only more and worse of them. Woodrow Wilson was held up by Dr. Morse as the only pure example of an advocate of goodwiii. The rest lacked it ; they wanted to crush, and make them pay. They call a man a sucker who has altruistic outlook toward humanity. "Germany, the speaker put forth, is following a paperhanger, painter, and foreigner. Their education has been cramped. The effects are here now. We see them as they are and will be." In closing, Doctor Morse urged that such student groups as these come forward and help to give the world a "square deal", and help it to live again . . . before a return to savagery and no civilization. Initiation was held November 21 at the home >f Mrs. J. R. Hawlkins, faculty ad visor of the group. New initiates include Alice Ringham, Blanche Gibbes, Marion Zula, Jean Brunson, Catherine Rector. Officers for the year were selected at the same meeting. These will be installed at the next regular meeting of the organization. McIlhany is the church synod's committee head. Presbyterians at the University have been urged to attend. Barnard College has received a gift of $100,000 to be used in estab lishing a health education program. Non-de-Script Gives Dance Before Damas Non-de-Script, the only co-ed tea dance club at the University of South Carolina, will give its regular pre Damas dance tonight from 6 to 8 p. m. at the Rathskeller, the Little Chatterbox, in the Jefferson Ilutel.
