Several members of the Clariosoph
ic staff, including Paul Holscher, who
started the discussion two weeks Ago,
made it clear that they were not in
lavor of a so-called "purge" of The
Gamecock staff. It seems that the
Clariosophians merely want to up
hold the constitution of the paper,
which the two literary groups started
in 1908.
Thomas Talks
Jimmy Thomas said that something
must be done about the situation in
"The Gamecock Garret". He said
that there had been too much "wran
gling" between the two literary socie
ties and the student publication during
the last six years. "We must make
concessions to The Gamecock, said
Thomas, "or we must fight. I'm
willing to back either course."
Paul Holscher said, in no uncer
tain terms, that he was in favor of
upholding The Gamecock constitu
tion. "I am in favor of such a strict
interpretation of the constitution that
all members of The Gamecock staff
will have to be members-in-good
standing of a literary society," he
said. "In this way the societies can
maintain their integrity and can keep
control of the Paper."
Lack Of Oil Is More
Important Than Oil
Some of the members who attended
a meeting of the Columbia Art As
sociation in the mnisic room of Mar
ion Sims College, University of
South Carolina, Monday night, said
the most important aspect of the meet
ing was not art, but the lack of oil
on the new hinges of the doors.
It was a constant reminder of more
boys coming for their dates, and it
became very interesting to the listen
ers. One of the ladies said the girls
had so much better places to "court"
now that it should be a great deal
easier to catch their beaux.
At the close of the meeting the
kinder ones donated pennies to buy a
can of oil for the squeaky hinges.

cording to Mrs. Nannie Moon, post
mistress at the University of South
Carolina. They can be obtained upon
identinication by their owner.
When lost articles are not claimed,
they are returned after a reasonable
time to their finder.

At Winthrop Sunday
The Y. M. C. A., under the leader
ship of Executive Secretary R. G.
Bell, is sending out three deputation
teams this week, one to Winthrop
College, another to North High
School, and one to Bishopville.
Dan Hollis is leading the group go
ing to Winthrop. This deputation
will have charge of the vesper ser
vices at Winthrop, Sunday night.
Preston Westmoreland will sing dur
ing the services. The team will dis
cuss the recent University religious
emphasis week with the Winthrop
students.
Those making the trip to Winthrop
are Dan Hollis, Preston Westmore
land, A. C. Lyles, and Jimmy Gal
loway.
Another team will go to North on
Friday under the leadership of W. P.
Baldwin. Stokes Davis will speak
during the meeting there.
Jimmy Wilson will have charge of
the group going to Bishopville.
The Y. M. C. A. plans to send out
deputation teams to almost every
high school in the state before the
end of this school year.

in its revised form was sent recently
to Mr. 0. W. Eshbach "who is an
outstanding authority on engineering
school curricula in this country,"
Doctor Ball said.
"We received a letter from Mr.
Eshbac4i," said Doctor Ball, "com
plimenting us on our new set-up in
regards to the curriculum in electri
cal engineering, and lie expressed a
hope that our plan as now outlined
might be carried out in every detail."
Preston Students Are ~
Nearly Caught In Raw
One University of South Carolina
student forgot Preston College was
holding its open-house Saturday and
narrowly escaped being caught in the
"raw" by several young ladies who
ventured into his room when he was
least expecting females in what .he
believed to be a "female-tight" dor
mitory.
The young man was taking a noon
shower and had just finished when
his roommate entered with a num
ber of lady friends who wished to in
spect typical men's living quarters.
Feniale voices were the first hint
the bather had of the approaching
catastrophe and lie realized the voices
were dangerously near the shower
door.
