Ten Boxers Don Gloves First Day Te4m Built Around Returning Lettermen Blatt, Beall, Baxter Ten boxers turned out for the first day of training at the Uni versity of South Carolina Monday afternoon. Coach Frank DeMars issued some equipment and then sent them through a short work out. Turning out for the practice were: Herbert Bostain, 175 lbs.; Ed Tiller, ir55 lbs.; Harry Lofton, 145 lbs.; Willis Beall, 145 lbs.; Sol Blatt, 135 ibs.; T. H. Davis, Jr., 135 lbs.; W. M. Truluck, 135 lbs.; Clinton Christ mias, 127 lbs.; Bert Flowers, 127 lbs.; and Olin McDonald, 120 lbs. Dick Baxter, star heavyweight, is. expected to report later to fill his position. 'Arthur Fischer, 127 pounder, will report sometime this week. The Gamecock' pugilist will be fairly strong in the lower weight but lack an experienced fighter the 155 pound class, and as yet ii one has turned out for the 165 class. Bost'in may be ruled ineligible for the first semester because he dropped out of school last semester, but should fill in very capably for the second semester fights and the Southern Conference tournament. The failure of Allen Legare and Bob McCrady, Carolina's two Southern Conference title holders, to return has greatly decreased the local pugilists' prestige. However, with capable men filling these two vacancies, namely, Willis Beall and Clinton Christmas, the team may furnish enough fireworks to be in the running again. Last year Caro lina finished third in the Confer ence, just two points behind the championship Maryland team. Coach DeMars said that a match may be arranged with Presbyterian College before the Christmas holi days because the Gamecocks can fight only ,five times after the holi (lays because of interference with semester exams. The other teams Carolina will fight are Duke, Clem son, Georgia, Florida, and The Cit adfl. All opponents except Florida and The Citadel will be met in Columbia. Thirty-Two Make Womens Glee Club Thirty-two students have qualified for membership in the Women's Glee Club, Mrs. Hugh Williamson, dlirector1 announced today. Crow, dean of the school of educa tion. Some of the films were pur chased by the Extension Division, )ut most of them are the poans of industrial concerns. Student's Forum Begins Fall Program Soon TPhe Carolina Students Forum will begin its Fall programs in the next twvo weeks, according to an an nouncement madle by Dave Baker, member of the Forum. As fate will have it, Professor Smith's Geology lab and the first game of the World Series between the Yankees and the Reds began at the same hour. But the determined geology instructor was not to be outdone. While he lectured to his class, his laboratory assistant worked in his office where there was a radio. Every two innings the assistant re ported with the score neatly written on official paper. The class was oblivious to all taking place. However, when the final score of 2 to 1, the Yanks, came in, Pro fessor Smith's satisfied smile be trayed him and he told his class the score. All the signs will be the same size and each will be done simply in neon lighted Greek letters of the sorority.
