Damas Splits
Into Two
Dance Clubs
Damas, University co-ed dance club,
has completely re-organized, and
henceforth there will be two Damas
clubs, Junior Damas for freshmen
and sophomores and Senior Damas
for juniors and seniors. This was
the result of a motion made by Vir
ginia Webb at the regular meeting
held last Friday afternoon in the
chapel.
Such action was taken because of
numerous complaints that past Damas
dances have been too crowded and
because by having two clubs - there
can still be a larger total membership
than was in the one club.
Another Damas meeting was held
Monday afternoon in -Sims Hall to
discuss what percentage basis should
be used in limiting membership in
the two groups. It was decided that
neither club's membership should ex
ceed 100, and that each sorority
should have 75% of its eligible mem
bers in each group, that election from
one club into the other should not
be automatic, and that each club
should have a separate initiation fee
of $3 each. Each club will have sep
arate officers.
All eight sororities are included in
the 75% quota. Non-sorority girls
will have 15 members, and expired
pledges, ten.
