Old Diamond
Glitters Again
She looked Wistfully at the grassy
mound. She was young-must too
young for this. Hot tears sprang
to her eyes as she looked out across
the back field. For the past two
weeks she had been terribly alone
in spite of the crowd that seemed
to be eternally milling around. She
looked at the diamond. It had
taken on a new meaning, a new
place in her life, duritTg the past
few trying days. She realized that
the thing that she had been taught
to dread was coming. Yet even
as she watched she felt only be
wilderment rather than pain. This
terrible thing could not happen to
him. The light of her life had been
fanned out. Sadly she remembered
...all his errors last year. And
only yesterday he had run in home
to a full plate. She looked down
again miserably. It would be hard
to live through the next months
without his attentions. The base
ball season had just opened.

of a compliment to a woman to tell
