Ping-Pong Tilt Ends Monday The ping-pong tournament for co-eds at the University will end Monday afternoon. This tourna ment has been going on for the past two weeks in the basement of the Student Union Building. Twenty girls are enrolled in the competitions. Participants are ar ranged in a "ladder", in order ac cording to their registration. The girl at the head of the ladder when the tournament ends will be de clared the winner. The Women's athletic associa tion, headed by Doll Hunt, is spon soring the tournament. Margaret Rollins is in charge of arrange ments. ern Languages. The University of Minnesota has opened a "conversation laboratory" in which students and faculty miem bers conduct conversations which are ororit Co-ed Association Girl Break Tom, Westbrook's Band Plays For Daince The Co-ed Association is spon soring a girl-break dance tomor row evening at the University gym nasium from 9 to 12 o'clock. Henry Westbrook will play. Proceeds will go to the central scholarship fund of the University subscribed to by all campus organ izations to enable desirable students to complete their college careers. Officers of the Co-ed association are: Miss Martha Withers, presi dent; Miss Marion Graham, vice president; Miss Peggy Bailey, sec retary; and Miss Dorothy Crow, treasurer. A. leads the list of :ontributors to the Central Schol arship fund with $24.55. Alpha Kap pa Gamma and Pan-Hellenic come second with $15.45 and- $15.'00 re spectively. The Co-ed Association, K. S. K., Hypatian and Euphrosy nean have each contributed $10.00. Three girls have received loan of P105.00 each from the fund. These girls have signed notes promising to repay the full amount within two years from the date of the loan. rhese girls were selected on the ba sis of merit by the Central Schol arship Committee composed of Mrs. Childs, chairman, Dean Chase, and Frances Smith. The fund is sponsored by Alpha Kappa Gamma, national leadership fraternity for girls. Frances Smith heads the fraternity committee in charge of the project and is largely responsible for its success. Dink Gaines, assistant dean of women and national president of Alpha Kappa Gamma, has advised the fraternity. Through the efforts of Virginia Webb an arrangement for ten per cent of the total amount of bills of University co-eds in the Janie Lin coln and Efird Beauty Parlors will be sent monthly to the Central Scholarship fund. F. Kelly of the treasurer's office. Mr. Kelly said that only a few of the students employed under the N. Y. A. on the campus had failed to measure up to the required scho lastic standings. In order to hold their jobs, students employed must make a "C" average in all of their studies. A. K. G. Sponsors Student Sing The Alpha Kappa Gamma sing has been scheduled for the chapel program on February 16. All fra-. ternities and sororities are expect ed to compete. Regulations pro vide that not more than six and not less than two members will repre sent each group. Each will sing two of their fraternity songs. GrandMarch Is Led By Miss Ash Buster Spann Furnishes Music Last Tuesday night, January 31st, the members of Tri Delta gave their annual ball. It was one of the best dances of the year and a large crowd attended. It was held in the ballroom of the Jefferson Hotel with Buster Spann playing. The ballroom was lovely, having been decorated by Mrs. Owens in the sorority colors, silver, gold and blue. During the evening there was a Grand March and a special figure for the actives and their dates. These were led by the officers and their dates: Margaret Ashe, presi dent, with Pete Peters; Hildur Syl van, secretary, with Reginald Heintish; Molly Tabor, treasurer, with Dick Grimshaw; Jacqueline McCutchen, chairman of the dance committee, with Louis Gilland. They carried arm bouquets of yel low jonquils and blue delphinium, tied with tulle in the colors of the sorority. During the special no break Mamie Thomas sang "Dust On Tri Delta Moon." Many of the alumni and several members of the Tri Delta chapter at the College of Charleston, Charleston, S. C., attended. Invit ed to chaperon were: Dr. and Mrs. McKissick, members of the Uni versity faculty and parents of the members of the sorority. Also patronesses of the sorority. Before the dance Mamie Thomas entertained at her home on Saluda Avenue with a drop-in for Tri Del tas and their dates. ---. g. 0. Phi Delta Phi Gives House Party The University chapter of Phi Delta Phi, international law frater nity, gave a beach house-party last weekend at Sullivan's Island. A large number of members from the College of Charleston chapter of the fraternity attended. Carolina students who went to Charleston for the affair are: Nat Barnwell, Herb Willis, Billy Rog ers, Hoke Roberson, Jimmy Thom as, Kitty Foster, Clifton Stroheck er, Patsy Ridgeway, and Margaret Ashe. Ann Barnwell and Rita Frierson, of Charleston, were among the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Turner Logan, of Charleston, chaperoned the party. Mr. Logan is a 1937 graduate of thc University of Sou th Caroelina. this song will become an annual event.
