Chii O Pan Hellen MARJORIE COLLINS President Pan-H Presents Dance Friday Spann Plays For Dancing U. S. C. Gym The girls Pan-Hellenic council is having a dance next Friday night, De cember 13, in the University gym, from 9 'til 1 to raise money for the central scholarship fund. Music for the occasion will be played by Buster Spann and his Gamecock orchestra. Script is 75 cents. Officers of Pan-Hellenic Council are Marjorie Collins, president; Ran nah Heyward, vice-president; Kather ine Webster, secretary; Ray Overton, treasurer. Decorations will feature sorority colors and coats-of-arms and emblems of the seven national sororities, at the University. Ray Overton is chair man of the committee in charge of arrangements. Pan-Hellenic Council is composed of the president of each sorority and one other representative. New Directory Is Received A copy of the Greenville County Education Association directory for the year 1938-1939 has been re ceived at the school of education of the University of South Carolina. This directory includes a list of schools by districts, with the district number, enrollment, and number of teachers; the names of the Greenville County Teachers' Association for the year 1938-1939 and members of ex ecutive board of the Greenville Coun ty education association; members of the county board of education; the Greenville county legislative delega tion to the G.eneral Asseanbly of South Carolina; members of the council of delegates; members of the State dle partment of education; the State edui cation association officers; a list of objectives for the year 1939'; the names of the program committee and the directory committee; the dates and places of meetings of the Coun ty teachers' association; the names of the trustees of the different schools for each district; announcements of county and state-wide contests. In teresting information concerning each teacher is given: the home address, the colleges attended, the degrees re ceived, and the hobbies of each. -.U. U. 0. M. C. A. The program, according to Miss Gaines, will be presented by a group of "honor" girls from the South Caro lina Industrial School for girls. The program will consist of music by the girls and several brief talks. After the program, there will be an informal discussion of conditions at the Industrial school. Sara Craddock is in charge of vcs per services for the Y. W. C. A. She is assisted on Sunday night's program by Elizabeth Shackford, who visits the school once a week as part of the Y. W. C. A. service program. Before the Christmas holidays, a large group-about 60 students from both boys' and girls' organiza tions sang carols around the campus, including various professors' homes in their route. The group was served refreshments by Mrs. J. Rion McKis sick, and proceeded later to Flinn Hall, where hot chocolate was served. W. C. A. presents its annual campus fash ion show. , Gala entertainment, music, and fun will fill up the time between show ings of the latest in women's clothes. Plans call for the stage to be set as a Fifth avenue store, with Bernard Hester as owner; clprks will be Kite Park Johnson, Irene Mars, and Kath leen Caughman. In the roles of cus tomers will be Ann James, Mackie King, and Louis Searson. Music will be furnished by Dallas Wilson and Jack Brown, vocalists. Other features of the program were not . definitely arranged when The Gamecock went to press this week. All types of costumes for the feminine form, from sport dresses to the swankiest evening clothes will be modeled by the following co-eds: Eloise Singley, Ann DuPre, Kath erine Toal, Velda Harth, Margaret Cain, Adelyn Lipscomb, Louise Fry, Katherine Gooding, Eva Abbott, Kath erine Knight, Jesna Prevatte, Cornelia Yoder, Margaret Todd, "Nicki" Mc Stein, Jacqueline Williams, Dot Brain lett, Naomi Newsome, Norine Huey, Helen Allen, Jewel Martin, Geraldine Shapiro, and Fay Reyner. Maude Byrnes Chisholm is chair man of the committee in charge of ar rangements for the show. The pre sentation last year met with outstand ing success, and if plans for the cur rent show materialize, the producers hope for another hit. -U. U. 0. Sociology Dept. Sponsors Tree For the eighth consecutive year the sociology department sponsored a Christmas Tree for the children of the Wilson's Mills community on Dec. 19. Besides the toys given to the chil dren, each person present was given a package containing fruit and candy. Music for the program was fur nished by the WPA orchestra con sisting of sixteen pieces. "Class of '29" has been dropped in favor of this comedy, and casting will begin im mediately after mid-term examina tions. The play concerns a young British lady and an American who fell in love with each other but are nearly separated for life when he is called back to America from England. Gaining a last moment's reprieve, he returns to propose the second time and is immediately accepted. The comedy contained in the three scenes "amuses you royally," says the Newv York Times. The varsity show planned for the early spring is being worked on al ready. The script will soon bc ready and cast will begin on this produc tion in February. If present plans materialize, the show wvill be produced before spring holidays, Professor Stephan said. E )lumbia Buster Spann To Play For Gala Affair The Chi Omega sorority at the Uni versity of South Carolina is enter taining with a ball from half after 9 until half after 1 o'clock Friday evening in the ballroom of the Hotel Columbia. 'Buster Spann and his Gamecock or chestra will furnish the music for the occasion. During the evening, there will be four no-breaks, with one special no-break. during which Miss Mary Keels, of Timmonsville, will sing "My Chi Omega Sweetheart." Members of Chi Omega chapters from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia have been invited to at tend the ball. Among those who will be here are: Miss Jean Mitchell, of Chesterfield; Miss Lois Myers, of Charleston; Miss Harriet Cockfield, of Lake City; Miss Mary Keels, of Timmonsville.
