AM P Carolina-Clems Campuscripts Centering around the Clemson-Carolina game tomorrow are many social activities, the first of which is the Social Cabinet dance tonight in the University gymnasium..' The dance, which will follow the freghm4n game, is from 10 until 2 o'clock. Decorations for the gym will be purple and gold, Clemson colors. He" Westbrook and his orchestra will furnish the music. Meflbers of the University faculty and othere have been invited to chaperone. Another dance of the week will.be that given by the German Club tomorrow evening in the gymnasium. Tommy Thompson will lead the grand march with Fay DesPorte, president of the club. Jim Fettis and his 12-piece orchestra will play. The Kappa Alpha's annual tea dance will be given at Ridge wood following the game tomorrow from six 'til eight. The dance is being given to Rho Chapter by the Columbia alumni club. Jim Fettis will play for this dance also. K. A.'s have pledged Guy Gunter, Jim Parker, George Mundy, and Tommy McLeod since the regular rushing week. Active officers re cently elected are Rob Matthews, president; David Aiken, vice president; Ben Wyman, secretary; John Hemphill, treasurer. Freddie Schiffley is president of the pledges. Besty Yeadon entertained members of Pi Beta Phi with a drop-in at her home in Sumter following the Davidson game last Friday. Pledges of Pi Phi were given a party by the local alumnae group last Tuesday evening at Mary Lees Graham's cottage on Lake Murray. Baby Brunson'has just returned from Darlington where she attended dances there last week-end and went on a house party to Murray Hall plantation near Kings tree. Kappa Sigma loeal alumni are reorganizing their group. They met with the active chapter last week and had a supper. Alum. ni members in charge were Sam McPherson and Frank Taylor. There are about thirty alumni of Kappa Sigma in Columbia. Coke Lawrence, Bill Kimbrell, Dan Hollis, and Tom McCabe have pledged Kappa Sig since the regular rushing week. Albert Brent, a Kappa Sig from Theta Zeta chapter at LelAnd Stanford Umversity, was the guest of the local chapter last week-end. Zeta Tau Alpha pledges were given a dance last night at Mrs. John Sloan's dance studio on Bull Street. Alumnae, patronesses and parents of members were chaperones. Gaynelle Wilson is chairman of the social committee. Freshman pledges of Tri Delt were given a supper at the sorority rooms Monday night. Hildur Sylvan has returned from Washington where she spent the past week-end. Statistics on the girl break: Attendanee good . . . a rushy dance . . . Turn about is fair play-or so the Sigma Chi pledges think. Pledges are to honor their actives with a dance next week, al though plans have not been completed yet. Oliver Wolfe and Cordrey Wofford were recently initiated. Sarah Harrison spent the week-end in Florence where she at tended a dance given for Margaret Powell, a bride-elect, who is Harlee's sister. And speaking of brides-elect, Yancey Hughes is to be married to Sam Daniel, well-known in tennis circles, in December. Yanceywas a Delta Zeta at the University last year. Bess Dowling, Eva Abbott, and Margaret Mitchum have re turned from P. C. where they attended the fall Pan-Hellenic dances the past week-end. Polly Cely has been to Duke Uni versity where she sponsored for the president of the student body at a recent dance. -Frank Taylor, assistant University business manager, spoke to members of Delta Sigma Pi recently on the subject of purchas ing. A group of freshmen in the school of commerce were guests of the fraternity. Delta Sigma Pi's are having a hayride and wiener roast at Lake Murray Friday night. Tom Benson is president of the group. The eleventh annual conference of Alpha Kappa Gamma will open Friday afternoon at the University of North Carolina. Rep resenting the University of South Carolina will be Frances Smith, president of the local chapter; Beverly Bates, vice-presi dent; Dorothy Benedict and Dink Gaines, who is a natiog1al officer. Members of the football team will be admitted free announced Jack Page, member of the Social Cabinet. Henry Westbrook and his pop ular student orchestra will furnish the music for the occasion. Members of the Social Cabinet who are elected each spring are John Dargan Rogers, chairman, Miss Sarah Harrison and Jack Page. The dance tonight formally opens the round of State Fair festivities. Thursday afternoon from 6 to 8 o'clock, Kappa Alpha fraternity en tertains at its annual tea dance at Ridgewood. The Leman club ball follows that night at 10 o'clock in the gymnasium.
