GAMECOCKS TAKE
TIGER NINE, 3-0
The University of South Carolina
baseball nine defeated Clemson's Ti
gers on Melton Field, Tuesday after
noon, 3 to 0, with Lewis Tabor limit
ing the opposing hitters to three safe
ties.
The outstanding play of the game
came when James, Tiger second base
man, made a diving catch of Robin
son's drive, then threw to second while
lying on the ground to catch Lowry
off the bag for a double play. A fast
relay from Lowry to Williams to
Wolfe to Burns cut Fox off at the
plate as he attempted to stretch a triple
into a home run.
The Birds scored in the second as
Zuckerman walked, stole second, went
to third on a wild throw and tallied
on a slow roller by Wolfe. Another
run was added in the sixth when Wil
liams scored without a hit being made.
Wolfe scored in the seventh when
Snipes misjudged Tabor's fly which
went for two bases.

Finals At P. C
Finals of the South Carolina inter
collegiate tennis tournament will be
played tomorrow at Presbyterian Col- 1
lege. Results of the preliminary I
matches arrived too late to be included
in The Gamecock.
For the first time this year the state
chimpionship will be decided by team i
standings and on the point system.
W. P. Jacobs, president of Presbyte- t
rian College, announced these changes r
in his official capacity as chairman of
the South Carolina rules committee.
The No. 1 doubles combination of
the University, consisting of Dinky
Williams and Courtenay Carson, were
seeded first in the tournament. In the
singles, George Beatty of P. C. was
seeded first, and Lykes Boykin of
P. C. was seeded second.
Last year the singles crown was
won by Sam Daniel of the University
Df South Carolina, and Daniel and
Williams together won the doubles
title. This year Daniel will not be
back to defend his titles.

With the state championship de
pending on the outcome, the Carolina
baseball teai closes its season with
Furman University on Melton Feld
tomorrow at 4 o'clock. The Bird vic
tory over Clemson last Tuesday put
them well in front in the Palmetto
State League.
Furman is fresh from a loss to the
Davidson nine, an out-of-state oppo
nent not affecting thestate race, and
gunning for the Gamecocks. Furman
may tie for the title. To do this the
Hurricane must defeat the Gamecock
nime tomorrow. Only this game re
mains on the circuit schedule.
Capers McCravey will take the
'"ound for Carolina tomorrow. The
Birds started the season slowly but
with the steady hurling of McCravey
and Lewis "Gunner" Tabor and the
general good playing of the team
soon crept into the first slot.
Coach Vernon "Catfish" Smith's
team, the first under his reign, has a
state record of ten victories to'three
losses in the state. Furman's record
stands nine won and four lost with
one contest left.
