MAROARET ROLLINB, 0o-ed E REEL S BYEDI1 At services held at the chapter house, Wednesday night, March 9, the following twelve girls were initi ated into Delta Delta Delta: Eva Gary Copeland, Louise Ehrlich, Jac queline McCutchen, Louise Fry, Jean Flinn, Kitty Foster, Margaret Thomp son, Irene Scott, Edna Greene, Mar garet Mitchum, Lois Jeter, and Eleanor Lykes. Edna Green was awarded a Tri Delta ring as a symbol of apprecia tion from the chapter for being the most outstanding pledge of the year. Dr. J. Rion McKissick and Mrs. McKissick will entertain University of South Carolina graduates and for mer students with a buffet supper at their home from 5:30 to 7:30 p. m. on Monday, March 21. The supper is to be given in honor of the University alumni who will attend the teachers' convention. A business meeting of the Carolina Teacher's club, composed of all teach ers who have attended the University of South Carolina, will be held in the chapel at 5:10 the same afternoon. The pledges of 'Phi Sigma Kappa entertained the actives at a party Sat urday night at the Lake Murray cot tage of Carl Wingard, alumnus. The fraternity's founder's day will be celebrated with a special program Tuesday, March 15. At a special meeting of Alpha Epsi lon Delta, medical fraternity, Monday night, five of Columbia's, as well as the South's leading physicians were elected to honorary membership. The names will be announced at a formal banquet to be held March 18 at the Columbia Hotel. Dr. Isadore Schayer, faculty advisor of the fraternity was present at the meeting and gave an instructive and educational talk. Phi Delta Phi, law fraternity, is planning a party to be given at Lake Murray, Sunday afternoon starting at 3 o'clock. Beta Omicron of Zeta Tau Alpha, Tuesday night, March 8, initiated the following three girls to membership: Ruth Kanarr, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dorothy Benedict, and Gaynelle Wil son, both of Columbia. Ruth Kanarr has received the honor of being elected the most outstand ing pledge of the chapter in recogni tion of which she will be awarded a diamond setting in her sorority pin. The award is based on a point sys tem including outstanding campus achievement, dependability, service, and general attitude. Marion Mayer, field secretary, who will visit the chapter this week-eud, will be feted at a luncheon given by the pledges, and a Pan Hellenic tea at the Columbia Hotel, Sunday after noon. The alumnae also are making plans for her entertainment. The freshman law class of the Uni versity held its annual banquet Wed nesday night at Forest Lake country club. Guests included Professor J. Nelson Frierson, Professor Charles B. Elliot, William T. Elliot, and F. Carlisle Roberts. Five members of the state legislature also were present. Buddy Riser and his orchestra will furnish the music. 'Tickets for the dance may be ob tamed at the canteen. Phi Kappa Sigma will give a dance next Thursday night for actives, pledges, and their duties. Simpson Hyatt and J. Walton Harper recently were initiated. The Kappa Alpha's gave a party for members and their dates at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bonnoitt last Friday night. Arrangements are being made for their formal to be given May 5. The pledges of Pi Kappa Phi en tertained the active chapter with a buffet supper in the chapter rooms Sunday evening. There are 110 active chapters of Sitma Alpha Epsilon among the colleges and universities in the United Siates at the present time. Tri Delts Win Over A. D. Pi's The girls intramural basketball tour nament was won by the Delta Delta Delta's who defeated the Alpha Delta Pi's 25 to 11 in the final played at the universit-' gym, Thursday at 7 p. m. In the opening game, Monday the non-sorority was defeated by the 'ri Deltas. Tuesday night, the Alpha Delta Pi's won from the Pi Beta Phi's and the Delta Zetas defeated the Zeta Tau Alpha's. In the semi-finals Wednesday night, Tri Delta defeated Chi Omega and Alpha Delta Pi won from the Delta Zetas. This is the second year in 'r on, the Tri Delta team has won the cup. Clariosophic Sends Letters To Congress Declaring that the increase in expen (diture for the United States navy con tenmplated by the national congress would be a (let riment to our country and would augment trouble with other na tions, the Clariosophic Literary society at the University of South Carolina sent letters to members of the H-ouse of Representatives and Senate recently3 asking them to uise their influence to prevent the passage of the Bill. Answers from tive of the representa tives showed that the action of the so ciety had been favorably received and that the action of the society had beeni carefully noted. Those who have answered are repre sentatives J. P. Richards, G. Hleyward Mahon. John Taylor, and Thomas S. McMillan and Senator E. D. Smith.
