Richland County Club Plans Dance The Carolina Columbia club met last Friday to discuss the plans for a dlance to be given Tuesday night of June \Veek. All men students from Richiland county are eligible for membership in the club. Jordan, the presilent, is with the debating team in New Or leans. The query for debate was: Resolved, that the United States should abolish high protective tariffs on foreign goods. - Lee Baker, heading the affirmative side, was the first speakers lie held that the bulk of American people are taxed by tariffs to increase profits for a few pri vate companies. Also on the affirmative were John Sloan, Beverly Herbert, Jr., and leyward Belser. The negative side was supported by Douglas McKay, I toward Burns, and John Gregg McMaster. They held that - the cheap foreign articles would kill home industries and this country can not com pete with low standards of living in other countries without protective tariffs. The query for debate next Tuesday is Resolved, that the British Parliament shtould accept the offer made by Germany and Italy. Beverly Herbert and John Sloan wvere appointed to lead the two sidles of the debate. Mr. DeTreville, author atnd former Euphradian, was a guest speaker at the meeting.
