All Obstacles Removed From Pool Finances (Continued from Page One) cured through the movement, last year, of Kappa Sigma Kappa, epirit fraternity on the campus, to raise funds, and through the aid of Lawrence M. Pinckney, state PWA administrator, Dr. J. Rion Mc Kissick and Professor R. L. Sumwalt. The pool will be located in the rear of the gymnasium and will be connected by a 30 foot passageway to the building housing the pool. The building will be 208 feet long and will be 70 feet wide, the same width of the gymnasium. The rear end of the proposed building will line up evenly with the south end of the Field House. The pool within the build ing will be 150 feet long and 45 feet wide. This $108,000 grant is a gift of the Works Progress Administration and does not call for repayment at any time. -u. a. o. Coach Enright is taking a waitful at titude about the nrosnects for the 1938 season. Realizing the tough schedule facing his team, he hopes "to crowd in a victory here and there." It was from the convention of the football coaches at New Orleans that news first came of the "resignation" of Don McCallister, who several weeks be fore had been retained as head coach, and the signing of Rex Enright, former Georgia backfield coach, as mentor of the South Carolina gridiron machine. After a long meeting in December, the special committee on athletics of the Board of Trustees voted to retain Don McCallister and raised his salary to $4, 500 for the coming year. The cummnit tee released Frank Pauly, line coach, and Carl Stamman, backfield coach. Ted Petoskey was retained as freshman foot ball and varsity basketball coach. In their first move to give McCallister new aides, the committee tendered an offer to Frank Patrick, star fullback of the University of Pittsburgh. It was generally supposed that Patrick had ac cepted the offer of $1,800 for the 1938 season. Patrick graduates from Pitts burgh this coming June. The action of the committee did not entirely meet with the favor of the Caro lina student body or alumni. On the night of December 16 a student body meeting was held in the University Chapel in which proposals wvere made for the board to reconsider their action. A petition wvhich wvas circulated among the students asked the board to do either of twvo things: (1) Retain McCallister and his entire coaching staff, (2) Dismiss the en tire staff and obtain a new outfit alto gether. A Junior Alumni Association was formed at this critical time and this group also favored that the committee on athletics take action again and decide either of the two moves stated above.
