Amateur radio program will be held
at Drayton hall, Tuesday night at 7:00
o'clock. Prof. R. M. Stephan will
carry on in traditional style as Major
Bowles. "Altitude" Smith will be in
:-harge of the mike and will act as tone
;upervisor. Currie MacArthur and
Mary Sutton are acting as chairmen of
ticket committees.
"Ed" Atkinson is production man
ager and any students wishing to enter
the contest can leave their names with
him or at the Y office. The entrance
list will be closed at seven o'clock
Monday night so that programs may
be printed and ballots prepared for
the popular vote.
As an added attraction Johnnie
Campbell and his company of Big
Apple dancers will put on their usual
exhibition but being professional are
not eligible for the prizes.

Gamecock Placed
At Several Points
The Gamecock will be distributed
this week at four focal points on
the campus, following a petition
from a group of students who com
plained that they did not know
"where or how to get copies."
The Gamecock may be secured
beginning at 10 to 12 o'clock and
all Friday afternoon at:
(1) Maxcy Gregg Monument in
the center of the campus.
(2) Canteen.
(3) Library.
(4) Wall.
Students are asked to take only
one Gamecock as the demand for
the issues this year has grown
even with the number printed.
Any student wishing to subscribe
for The Gamecock for an outsider
from January 1 through June 1
will be given a special rate of 75
cents.

Code Signers
Hold Meeting
The signers of the Student Honor
Code met last Tuesday afternoon in
the University Chapel and discussed
current problems. Approximately sev
enty-five persons attended the meet
ing.
Bill Overton, chairman of the Honor
Council, explained the functions of the
group and answered questions about
the system. A proposal to place the
new Honor System as a part of the
Student Body Constitution was tabled.
Among other things discussed were
the attitude of the professors and the
faculty toward the system and the con
ditions in the classrooms during ex
aminations.

Kissick. The meeting which has been
given over to cultural activities at the 5
University will be held following a ban
quet at the Jefferson Hotel Tuesday I
night.
Governor Olin D. Johnston and Mrs. t
Johnston and presidents of all colleges
in the state with their wives have been
invited to attend in tribute to Dr. Mc
Kissick, Mayor Owens, members of
the city council and heads of depart
ments at the University will also be
present.
Other guests include presidents of
the various classes at Carolina, presi
dent of the student body, captain of t
the football team, members of the Uni
versity board of trustees, and the 14
vice-presidents of alumni associations t
with their wives.

So red-hot was the speech by Minton
Holland, fiery orator of the Clario
sophic literary society, at their meet
ing Tuesday night, that the walls burst
into flames. Even after the cause of
the fire was found to be over-loaded
wires, Orator Holland's power con
tinued to be a topic of conversation.
Ossie Bramlett, Gamecock grid man,
took in the situation at a glance, rushed
out, jerked open the blazing box and
pulled the lever, plunging the entire
building into darkness. Bramlett was
very modest over his act of heroism
and when asked for a statement, said,
"Shucks. That was nothing. You
should have seen the time I-"
The Columbia fire department was
on the scene a few minutes after the
Dccurrence, but in the meantime the
blaze had been extinguished by the
members of the society.
President Sid Duncan commented:
'As President of the Clariosophics, I've
had a lot of dealing with hot air. So
this was really all in the day's work:
Of course, we don't usually have to
call out the fire department."
Marshal Cantey, who arrived later,
then disclosed the fact that no more
lights would be available in that build
ing for the remainder of the night.
Four new members were initiated
at the meeting before the lights were
short-circuited. They were James
Bruce, Elliott McCants, James Ben
nett, and Osgood Bramlett.
