Chase Makes Suggestions To Trustees (Continued from Page One) securing a demonstration public fo rum for the service of the State. "That the board thank Dr. Isadore Schayer for his extraordinarily valu able contribution to the development of an adequate medical service in the vacated by the canteen and post office in any manner which he might direct. The canteen and post office will be moved to the Student Union build ing as soon as quarters to house the'n are completed. The Board approved an item of $1,000 in the 1938-1939 budget for "professional and cultural entertain ment." A recommendation that the President appoint an appropriate fac ulty committee to make an investiga tion and recommendations of an exten sive health and physical education pro gram was also passed by the Board. The Trustees passes a recommenda dion commending the present student faculty honor committee for its ef forts looking toward a full restoration of the honor 'principle on the Caro lina campus. The Board pledged its full support to the movement to re store the "cherished policy and ideal to the campus."' Collaboration with other state col leges in an investigation of an extend ed program of annuity insurance for their staffs was recommended by Mr. Chase and approved by the Trustees. A report of such investigation is to be filed with the Board. Other recommendations which were approved by the body were the con nection of three faculty residences with the central heating plant as soon as University funds permit; investigation by the administration of the matter of group insurance, and recommenda tion to the University staff that some well-equipped underwriter handle such insurance; also the Board passed rec ommendations thanking Treasurer Frank Welborne for his efficient ser vices, and Chief Marsh of the Colum bia fire department for his interest in protecting the property of the Uni versity from loss by fire. -U. It is th clause which has led to the underhanded methods of "hiring" athletes which has been resorted to by members of the Conference. At the beginning of the 1937 football sea son the University of South Carolina led the way in this fight by openly avowing all aid to their athletes. Virginia Polytechnic Institute has of fered an amendment requiring partici pants in college athletics to have passed all courses in which they were enrolled during the preceding semester of the regular college session. This amendment will be strongly opposed by the South Carolina delegation and other members of the Conference. W. H. Harth, in a short interview last Wednesday, stated that the new amendment proposed by Clemson Col lege pertaining to the use of moving pictures would entail the same under handed methods which the Conference is trying to abolish. Clemson author ities would have the use of moving pic tures restricted to the teams compet ing in the contest. Mr. Harth said thai this clause would only force the mem bers of the Conference to get their pic tures by trickery. Citadel's proposal that competing teams be limited to twenty- five mem hers wvill also be the occasion for warm debate but it is unlikely that th< larger institutions will cast their vot< for this limitation feature.
