as
I,ampad fraternity, athletic organi- pr
zation on the University of South Caro
lina campus, will sponsor a freshman
boxing team this year, it was an
nounced yesterday.
Alembers of the club, which is a
service group, will act as coaches of
the team. Frank Jenkins, Rex Vil
liams, and Rhea Haskell will be the
active coaches. Jenkins and Williams
wore national title contenders last year,
and1 Haskell a member of the boxing
squad.
It is the first time that such a move
has been made toward a freshman box
ing team. Boxing has become increas
ingly popular at Carolina in the last
year, and the freshman team will sup
ply varsity material which before has
been available only from the ranks of
the intra-mural boxing contestants.
Matches will be arranged with other -
colleges in South Carolina to give the
freshmen experience and poise in the
ring.
Iampal fraternity is also furnishing fi
the officials for the intra-mural foot
ball games now in progress at Caro

Pi Kappa Alpha vs. Ten. 1, 2. 3.
Sammie I)aniel led the Pi Kappa g
Alpha team to a decisive victory over as
tenements 1, 2, and 3 team by a score ag
of 19-0. Despite good defensive play soi
by the tenement men, Collier and f
Hrockington, frat men Daniel and Rol
lins refused to be stopped.
Ten. 16 and 18 vs. DeSaussure.
Tenements 16 and 18 found little
difficulty in trompling I)eSaussure 37- tai
0. In fact, the lead was so unques- a
tionable that the game was cut short Ri
by several minutes. To Mr. Clarence sic
Kibler goes much of the credit for
the landslide.
Sigma Nu vs. Ten. 25. d
)espite a display of superior offense c
of mostly McMillan and Spigner, the jw
Sigma Nu's had to take advantage of -
a break in the middle of the last quarter
to lefeat tenement 25 by a 2-0 count.
The Sigma's blocked a tenement punt
behind the goal that a tenamenteer re
covered, thus chalking up two points
for the frat men.
GAMECOCKS PLAY

'I'he University of South Carolina
has signed a contract with the com
missioners of the Orangeburg fair
to play a tootb>ai game with "some
worthy opponent" at both the 1938
and 19t39 fairs. This will fill the blank
created by the refusal of Citadel, Caro
lina's traditional rival on this date, to
play at the fair.
The teams have not been selected.
The contract does not call for the same
team for both years.
