..cI BETTY 0OMSTOOK, Co-ed GERMAN BALL HELD TONIGHT The first German Ball of the sea son will be held at the gym Thurs (lay (tonight) from 9:00 till 1:00, with Frank LaMarr, of New York, furnish ing the music. The sponsors for the dance will be: Miss Andrena Bryan of Sumter, for Louis Bryan, president of the German Club; Miss Henrietta Phillips for James Goggans, vice-president; Miss Patricia Jeter, of Parris Island, for Theodore Bell, secretary; Miss Maxine Scar borough, of Columbia, for John Smith, senior leader; and Miss Anne McKay for Charles. Manning, junior leader. All sponsors have not yet been named. SOCIAL CABINET SPONSORS BALL Sponsored by the Social Cabinet, the annual Carolina-Clemson Sponsors' Ball was given last night from 10:00 till 2:00 in- the University gym. -Ienry Westbrook's orchestra played for this, the climax of the Clemson Week festivities. Sponsors for the game served as sponsors for the dance. Fraternities Phi Kappa Sigma The Phi Kappa Sigs celebrated their Founder's Day Tuesday, Oct. 20, with a banquet and dance "the cabaret way" at the Jefferson. Actives, pledges, alumni, and their dates attended. Kappa Sigma Newly-elected pledge officers of Kappa Sigma are: Alex MacArthur, president; Marion Traylor, vice-presi dent; "Bubba" Epps, sec'y-treasurer. Voodie Coker and Bubba Epps of our campus, members of Kappa Sig ma were guests on homecoming day at the Citadel of Legre Garrison of the Citadel. Phi Sigma Cappa The Phi Sigma Kappa's are looking forward to a "Southern Conclave" to be held on November 5 and 6, with representatives from nine chapters at tending. There will be a joint business ses sion Friday, and a dance the same night, at the University gym, with Buster Spann furnishing the tunes. The climax of the convention will come the following day, when the alumni chapter will sponsor a trip to Charleston for all representatives. Sigma Chi Pledges of Sigma Chi are giving a barn dance for the actives Saturday, at the Elks Club. New pledge officers are Willoughby D)ixon, president; "Jeep" Chase, vice president; Fred Holler, secretary; Den son Johnson, treasurer. A.T. O. The A. T. O.'s and Kappa Sig's gave a joint dance Wednesday night at Forest L1ake Country Club, from 10 till Kappa Alpha K. A.'s are having a Province Con vention at Durham Friday and Satur day. Dear Sir: For the past few weeks members of our student body and our leadership organizations have been giving much thought to certain phases of our an nual Carolina-Clemson football game. In an attempt to improve upon the more objectionable features of our an nual classic, a large number of our student body in an official student body meeting have adopted the following resolutions: Whereas, the conduct of the spec tators at intercollegiate football games reflects upon the reputation of the par ticipating institutions and whereas criticisms concerning drinking is dam aging the reputation of this and other institutions: Be it resolved that the student body of the University of South Carolina go on record as looking with disfavor upon the use of intoxication drinks by attendants at games. Be it also resolved that the student body and its leadership organizations give particular attention to the main t ;v af te scr tres betore the Carolina-Clemson game with the pur pose of actively discouraging any un becoming conduct which may arise in connection with said fires. Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be sent to the student body of Clemson College with a re quest for their cooperation. Knowing the principles and high standards of Clemson students, we are sure that your student body joins us in the expression of the above reso r lution and will cooperate with us for the improvement of our annual class ic.
