Law School Stands High Standards Are Raise( Out of 193 law schools in the Unite States, only 81 are qualified for membe ship in the Association of American La schools. The law school of the Unive sity of South Carolina is one of the 8 Only 88 of these law schools compl with the prescribed standards of ti American Bar Association. The la school of South Carolina is on this a proved list. Because of its high stand ard, graduates of the law school of Sout Carolina may become members of ti South Carolina bar without further ey amination. The university law school is the oni law school in South Carolina. It wa established in 1867 and continued unt 1877, when it was closed because of ti situation produced by reconstruction. was re-established in 1884. From 1884 until 1900 a single profes sor, Joseph Daniel Pope, conducted th entire work of the school. The wor could be taken in one year at that tim In 1900, an assistant was elected. A thir professorship was established in 190 and in that year the course was length ened to two years. In 1924, the numbe of instructors was increased to six a1 the course lengthened from two to thre years. The law school has had four dean Joseph Daniel Pope, 1884-1906; M. Hern don Moore, 1906-1910; John P. Thoma sr., 1910-1920 and J. Nelson Frierso since 1920. One thousand and nine have bee graduated with the degree of LL.B. Ou of 59 lawyers in the state legislature, 4 are university law school graduates. Among the alumni of the law schoc are: Olin D. Johnston, governor of Sout Carolina; John Gates Stabler, chief jus tice of the Supreme Court of South Car( lina; Jesse Francis Carter and D.
