Rion EcKissiok Will Lead Group In East Rutledge; Williams President Discussion groups were organized Tuesday night in all sections of the cam pus, the largest, group with 27 members, being formed in Legare college. Morgati D. Arant is president of this group. and Prof. W. S. Woods, leader. . The groups, headed by John R. Turn bull, will -discuss "Campus and Personal Problems," which will be divided intc nine sub-heads yet to be announced. A group in 'East Rutledge college rat a close second to the group in Legare witl 20 members, headed by Dinky Williams with Dr. J.. Rion McKissick as leader. Other groups reported to date are: Tenement 28, 11 members, John Camp president, and the leader-yet to be chosen Burney college, 14 members, Eldridgi Baskin, president, Prof. Carlisle Roberts leader. Tenement 14, 16 members, Currie Mc, Arthur, president, Dave Galloway, leader Tenement 19, 10 members, John Graves president, Dean Orin F. Crow, leader. Announcement concerning other group: will be made next week. Williams, professor of mathematics, completed the requirements for the Ph.D. degree at the University of Chicago during the summer. His thesis delving into the field of ap plied mathematics was entitled, "Dis sertation, Prominent Configuration In The Problem Of Five Bodies." The faculty of the University of Chicago recommended that the thesis be published. It is understood that such a recommendation is applied to those show ing meritorious work. The work leading to the degree was done under Dr. Walter Bartky, who spoke here last year on "The Expanding Earth, Pro and Con." Professor Williams received both his A.B. and M.A. degrees at the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Williams spent the summer in Chicago with him. Coker, who is in charge f the Melton Memorial Observatory, as announced that the customary prac ice of inviting the public to the observa ory will be pursued this year. The large reflecting telescope will be available to visitors every Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 P. M. The concave mirror of the telescope as sent last Spring to Ithaca, New York, where it received a coating of chrome aluminum, much more efficient as a re flector than the silver ordinarily used. The adjustment and mechanism of the telescope itself have also been greatly im proved. Rdbert Lewis, Professor Coker's assistant in the observatory, is In charge of the operation of the telescope. According to Professor Coker the next few months will find the planets in very favorable positions for observation. Three major planets-Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn-are at present in view in the evening sky. In addition, the Pleiades and the Andromeda nebula are now well in sight. Mr. Julian Hennig will be chairman of the committee and there will be a 3-day whirlwind campaign. The goal is 1,000 members. The theatre is open from 10-1 and 3-5. Breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 on week days, and from 8 to 9:30 on Sundays. The lunch hours are from 12 to 2 on week days, and from 1 to 2:30 on Sundays. Dinner is served each evening from 5:30 to 7. Continuing its policy of last year, the management is giving its share of the profits from the phonograph to some lucky patron each Wednesday night. Miss Anderson state< that three courses required about ter hours' work a day. She attributes one's ability to do suci high-pressure work, even in the heat o New York, to three factors: mob psy chology (everybody works), the inspi ration of the new $3,000,000 library build ing, where all class-room activity and cadWiig are done, and a real interest it the work. With an enrolment in the Li brary School of over 400 the work seem5 to be assigned on the basis of the "sur vival of the fittest," and preventing o an overcrowded field. Miller, famous designer of Miller Special racing motors, has been an nounced by the American Bantam Car company, Butler, Pa., of which Miller is vice president in charge of engineering. Miller-powered cars have won the Indian apolis races for the last nine consecutive years. The roadster is named the American Bantam and is a custom job but is priced' along with the lower-priced standard cars, says R. S. Evans, president of the company. The auto will be available supercharged and with special equipment for high-speed performance. Thomas L. Hibbard, who in the last 20 years, has designed bodies for some of the highest priced cars here and abroad, including Rolls Royce, Packard, Renault and the leading European light cars, has styled the speedster for smart ness in keeping with the most modern stream-lined autos. He is vice-president of the company in charge of design. The company also manufactures a line of passenger cars and -quarter-ton de livery trucks.
