Two scrimmage games have been held
on Manly Field as practice for the men.
These have been open to the public, and
have attracted a large number of inter
ested onlookers. *
Only a small number of injuries have
been incurred during practice, and most
of these have been of a minor nature. Big
Durham, Don Tomlin, Van Edwards, and
Art Urbanyi are taking things easy be
cause of knee injuries and George Mc
Kovic has two broken ribs. lowever Ed
wards is the only one who will not be
able to see any service in the game Sat
urday, although his injury is expected
to heal within a week.
Although there are a number of sopho
mores to step into the ranks as substi
tutes, Coach McCallister declared that he
expected to mold his line from veteran
material. Only the post of center is va
cant, caused by the graduation of Ernie
Stokes. This position will probably be
taken by Frank Kiss. John Burns from
Gaffney is expected to see plenty of ser
vice also at the pivot position.
In the backfield a number of untried
players who combine everything from
elusiveness to sheer power will fight for
places. "Lit" Durham is the standout at
quarterback. He is a rugged player
weighing about 170 pounds who has a
slight edge on Ralph Dearth, last year's
freshman signal caller.
Jack Lyon will provide the speed and
elusiveness in the backfield. Big Dur
ham, Ed Stillwell, Ed Clary, Curry Farn

With the installation of an amplifying
system, Carolina's new steel and concrete
stadium has been put into condition at a
cost of $35,000 for this years 12 game
schedule, seven of which will be played
in Columbia.
The huge stadium has a seating ca
pacity of 17,000 and is ranked with the
finest in the South.
The turf has been patiently tended all I
summer and is now in the best condition t
possible.
The public address system will have
three speakers on each stand and will
keep the spectators supplied with the
player's names and other information 5
which should tend to make the game
more interesting for the onlookers.
A new concrete fence has been con- I
structed around the stadium and will be {
completed later.
Tw~o scoreboardls on each side of the
goal posts have been built and will also I
serve to aid the spectator in following the
game more closely.
Ticket booths have been placed in the
wall and concrete floors have been laid
under the stands, in the player's dressing
rooms and the spectator's rest rooms.
The reserved seat sections have been
partitioned off from the general admis
sion sections and the press box is di
vided in order to give the writers, radio
announcers and public address men more
convenience.
The other additions to the stadium are
a quarter-mile track around the playing
field and fences to keep the fans off the
field.
