English Bandsman Probably Th
Biggest "Name" Ever Ob
tained Here
Ray Noble and his famous orchestr
have been definitely engaged to furnis
the music for the June week dance
the German's June Ball and the Inte
fraternity Council dance to be given o
the evenings of June second and thir
The English bandsman will also pla
for a public concert sponsored by th
two organizations at the townshi
auditorium earlier in the evening of th
third, it was announced by Ed Bowei
president of the German club, and Jac
Killea, president of the Itnterfraternit
Council.
Probably the biggest "name" ban
ever to play for the June Ball, Nob
follows Hob Crosby, who was a disai
pointment last year, Jan Garber, an
Glen Gray, both of whom played ri
turn engagements at the annual funu
tion of graduation week.
Since coming to America, Noble ht
become one of the most popular mae
tros of the country. H is style is pri
dominately smooth and sophisticate
but on occasion he demonstrates th;
he is no stranger to "swing." lIspec
ally when he is off the air, the con
poser of such syrupy ditties as "Go:
Night, Sweetheart" and "The Vet
Thought of You" is reputed to forg
his style and imitate Messrs. Ilende
son and Goodman.
Unquestionably the orchestra w
furnish the most aristocratic music cv<
secured by Carolina for the dance
Many of the German nembers st
have a bad taste in their niouths fro
the effects of tob Crosby's tin pan e
semble, and are looking forward to
band that is rated second to a very fe
in America. Ray and his boys recent
played for Lafayette, noted for i
strictly bonl ton students who await<
his arrival as eagerly as student w
here.
Leaving the gold mine Coca-Co
hour for a barnstorming tour, the N
ble men have shown themselves cap
ble of holding their own with the be>
and even surpassing most of the t(
notchers. It would seem that the Ge
man officers have outdone themselv<
in getting someone who will not on
satisfy the customers, who since la
year have had ample reason to co
sider themselves suckers. but his in
sic should bring delight to evel
dancer on the floor.
