Speeches Planned For Air School Program Dr. Reed Smith Will Discuss South Carolina Ballads January Twentieth "South Carolina Ballads" by Dr. Reed Smith and "The Organization of the South Carolina House of Repre sentatives" by the Hon. Claude Taylor, speaker of the House of Representa tives, will be the subjects of speeches to be delivered on the South Caro lina School of the Air program from 12:00, January 20 and 22, respectively, accordi'ig to Dr. S. B. Bass, who is in charge of the broadcast. Because of a previously scheduled, program, radio station WIS could not handle the program scheduled Janu ary 13th, at which time Dr. C. A. Wauchope was to speak on "The In fluence of the English Bible on Litera ture." The feature speeches of week after next will be given by Dr. J. E. Copen haver and Dean J. Rion McKissick. The subjects of the talks will be "The Past Year in the Field of Chemistry" by Doctor Copenhaver, and "Anec dotes of South Carolina History" by Dean McKissick. It is the purpose of the South Caro lina School of the Air to better fa miliarize the public in varied fields of study, such as Literature, Science, Current Events, Civics and History, Doctor Bass remarked. -v. s. o. Gaffney Teachers Hear Dr. McKissick J. Rion McKissick, dean of the School of Journalism and president elect, spoke to the Cherokee County Teachers' Association at G a if n e y Wednesday afternoon. He is scheduled to speak also at the Lee's birthday commemoration by the Newberry chapters of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Jan uary 19, to the annual meeting of the Hartsville Chamber of Commerce january 24, and to the Aiken County' Education Association at Aiken Feb ruary 27. Wilson Smith, Secretary of the YMCA in South Carolina and North Carolina, was guest speaker at the meeting of the Carolina Christian S'ervice Club last Wednesday night in 1 Flinn Hall. All students interested in going out for track this year are requested to meet in the chapel next Tuesday even ing at 7 o'clock. --. 0. o. next semester are Ed Harter of Allen dale, and Francis Williams of Easley. It was decided by the Board that Wil liams should continue in charge of the sports page at present in addition to his duties as associate managing editor. Assistant business managers passed by the Board are Ray Bargeron, Albert Douglas, Felix Greene, and J. M. Polat tie. Quite a number of new students were put on the staff, many just en tering the University. Staff.writers for the coming semester include Polly Pendleton, Crawford White, Vivian Lomas, Marybelle Higgins, St. Clair Muckenfuss, W. L. Lamb, Charles Lee, James O. Willis, and Grace Toney. The three sports writers are S. B. Bass, Harold Prince, and Jimmy Thomas. Assistant circulation mana gers are Sam Cleland, Tom Willis, and Bill Brockington. The business manager and the cir culation hold their positions for an en tire year.
