Damas Club Dance Held Tonight In Gymnasium Red And Green Color Scheme To Be Used; Jimmy Poyner To Play The first of a number of Christmas <lances which will take place before the holidays is the Damas Christmas Ball which will be danced tonight in the gym. Harriet Lever, president of Damas, will lead the grand march with How ard Kelly of Lake City. She will be assisted by Sarah Williamson and her partner, Harold Minson. 'T'he junior-senior figure will be led. by Betty Jane Sovacool, senior leader, with Emmett Smith of Mullins, and Maxine Scarborough, junior leader with James Holman of Florence. Following the junior-senior figure there will be a' junior-senior no-break. Jimmy Poyner from N. C, State will play for the dance and the gym will be decorated in red and green, carry ing out the Christmas motif. Officers of the club are: President, Harriet Lever; vice-president, Sarah Williamson; secretary, Beulah Des Champs; treasurer, Gerda Sylvan; se nior leader, Betty Jane Sovacool; ju nior leader, Maxine Scarborough. --. Non-de-script Fills Vacancy Dot Donavant Elected Club Will Give Dance Just Before Damas Tonight Dorothy Donovant was recently elected into the Non-de-Sc'-int dance club to fill a vacancy which occurred recently. One of the annual tea daiices of the club will be given this afternoon at the *Columbia Hotel from 6:30 until 8:00 o'clock. jimmy Poyner's orches tra will play for the occasion. It is precedent of Non-de-Script to sponsor a tea dance immediately be fore the Damas. There are 30 mem bers in the club. Synthetic Fever To CombatDiseases Created In Ovens George L. Epps, Jr., Addressing Pre-Ned Fraternity, Ex plains Method Synthetic or friendly fever is now being used in the treatment of mental as well as bacterial infections accord ing to George L. Epps, Jr., in the pa per he presented before the Alpha Epsilon Delta, pre-medical fraternity, Wednesday, 1N.ovember 27. He de clared that this fever is being brougi. about by placing the patient in an oven or by passing an electric current of high frequency through the af fected parts of the body. Epps explained that this increase in temperature caused an increase uin pulse rate and a subsequent mechan ical clearing of the infected areas. Night 2nc Kappa Sigma Gives Dance On Founder's Day Banquet Will Precede Ball Given In Columbia Hotel Decem ber 13 Celebrating their 66th anniversary of the founding of Kappa Sigma, Chi Omega chapter will hold the annual Founder's Day banquet and ball at the Columbia Hotel, December 13. Buster Spann and his Gamecock or chestra will furnish the music. In vitations have been issued to the Uni versity social set aqd Alpha Nu chap ter of Kappa Sigma at Wofford. Approximately 75 alumni from Co lumbia and other parts of South Caro lina are expected to attend. Sid Tom linson will act as toastmaster, and Furman Cannon, president of active chapter, will make the welcoming ad dress. Dr. A. T. Moore, alumni ad visor, will give the alumni response. Taylor Will Take Funds For Community Chest University students interested in con tributing to the Columbia Community Chest fund are informed that their donations will be received at the treas urer's office by Frank Taylor. Several students contributed to this fund last year, and it is thought that probably some would like to donate again. Military Training Bad For College Education Military training is not beneficial for college boys according to Dr. St. Julian Childs, professor of history at the University. Military rule keeps boys from think ing for themselves and hinders their preparation for the future stated Dr. Childs. Hie has attended several mil itary schools and has served as pro fessor in them, but believes military discipline is too strict. --U. .. Non-de-Script Preceding the Damas a tea dance will be given from 6 to 8 in the beau tiful Blue Room of the Columbia Hotel. Jimmy Poyner and his orchestra will be honored by an intermission party at the Sigma Nu house, Friday night. It is very interesting to note that Jimmy, his brother, and several members of the orchestra are Sigma Nus. The Delta Zetas will also enter tain for the members of Jimmy Poyner's orchestra tonight. They are giving a party at the chap ter house from 0 to 10. Mem bers of the sorority, their dates, and membera of the orchestra have been invited. The Pi K. A.'s will give an in termission party tonight. S. A. E. Dance Another interesting affair of this week's activities is the lovely dance that was given by the S. A. E.'s last night at Ridgewood Country Club. The rooms were beautifully decorated in the fraternity colors, purple and gold. A group of lovely girls were spon sors for the dance. They were Clair borne Bunch, Betsy Sparrow, Anne McKay, Dorothy Platt, and Elise Mc Lain. Last Week's Entertainments The P1 Phis had a get-to-gether Monday night for me mbers, pledges, and alumni. They are planning to do this once every month. A smoker was given by mem bers of Phi Kappa Sigma at the chapter house Monday nighit. An Intermission party was given by the Phi Kappa Alpha's dur ing the S. A. E. dance last night. A drop-in was given at the Chat ter box, Friday night, from 8:30 to 10 by Sigma Kappa. Members of various fraternities on the campus at tended. The A. T. O.'s entertained with a house dance Wednesday night. A dance was given by the members and pledges of Kappa Sigma, Friday night. Z. T. A. A banquet was given by Z. T. A. Saturday night in the Good Shep herd Parish House in honor of Miss Alma Watkins, who Inspect ed the chapter Friday and Satur day. Initiated members and the alumni were present. Miss Wat kins was hopor guest at a lunch eon given by Mrs. McTyre Dan iels for the executive committee, Friday and she was taken to lunch by the pledge chapter, Saturday. Page eveu German Elects 12 New Men Plan Christmas Dance Date Of Initiation Wim Be Be fore The Next Dance Twelve new members were elected into the German club at a meeting held in Petigru college, Tuesday after noon at two o'clock. It was an nounced at the meeting that the Christ mas German will be held Wednesday, December 18th. The Cotillion will be danced on the same day. The new members that were elected to membership are: Alvin Reyner, Warren Owen, John Swearinger, Paul Johnson, Van Edwards, Robert Earle Penland, James Belk, James Grayson, Joe Cohen, Charles Murtiashaw, Mar ian Knox, and Wilson Whitesides.
