After a week's layoff following theii
8-0 victory over Washington and Lee
the South Carolina Gamecocks wil
clash with the University of Florida
In Tampa, Saturday.
Twenty-two members of the squa<
left on the train for Tampa, Thurs
day night. This game will ring dowr
the curtain on the schedules of botl
teams. Before their defeat of Wash
ington and Lee the Gamecocks wer<
the underdogs, but now they are con
ceded an even chance to win.
The small and light Carolina squad
has played through a tough schedule
and has put three games in the wir
column.
The 'Gators have had a mediocr<
season, winning two games and los.
ing seven. They have been going
through a light practice this week ir
preparation for the game.
The Gamecocks have also been tak
ing light workouts. They have noi
scrimmaged since before the W. & L
game.
All the squad is in good shape ex
cept Colonel Wilburn Clary. Clary
punter, passer and runner has a
wrenched ankle, but he is expected
to be able to play Saturday.
Several of the Gamecocks will don
their red jerseys for the last time ir
this game. Captain Bud Alexander
and Colonel Wilburn Clary, the ac<
I backfield men, and Fred Craft, Toni
Watson, and Ernie Stokes, stellar line
men will be among these.
The probablc starting lineup for
the Birds will be Fred Craft and Bol
Johnson, ends; Paul Robelot and Hase
Murray, tackles; Paul Gaffney an<
Tom Watson, guards; Ernie Stukes
center; Capt. Bud Alexander, quar
terback; Wilburn Clary and Jac1
Lyon, halfbacks; Jack Derrenbacher
fullback.
Plans are being made to bring th<
game here on the grid graph in the
University Field House.
A victory in this last game of th<
season which would give Carolina
good record for the season judginF
by the material available.
Color will be added to the tilt by th
accompaniment of the band with tho
players. A special bus has been char
tered and the band, adorned in thei
new uniforms, made a striking pic
ture as they left, amid the tooting o
cornets and beatings of drums.
It is reported that the Florida ban
is composed of approximately 6
pieces and with ~ the Carolina ban
should furnish plenty of music an
pep to the game.
Auburn defeated Florida the pas
week at Miami by the score of 27-f
using very effectively their strong re
serve strength.
The 2-0 upset of Washington an,
Lee by the Gamecocks gives them
better chance of an upset, but the bet

In a game replete with thrills. the
Carolina Biddies took the Citadel Bull
t pups into camp 18-7, to annex the
e state title on Melton Field.
J Early in the first period Chet Smith
started things off for the Citadel by
s completing a long pass which led to
, a touchdown. Smith kicked the extra
e point to make the score 7-0.
The Biddies ended the season un
defeated. In the first game of the
year the Yearlings turned back New
berry 28-0. Despite noticeable lack of
coordination, the team showed great
potentialities. Ed Clary and Ralph
Dearth vied for the backfield honors.
Carolina frosh couldn't get started
against the Blue Socks of .P. C. The
Presbyterians showed s u r p r i s i n g
strength, and this combined with a
few bad breaks for Carolina, forced the
Biddies to be content with a 7-6 vic
tory.
kOn the eve of the State Fair Classic,
kwith fans all over the state watching
them, the Carolina Yearlings turned
'back the powerfui Clemson Cubs 7-2.
Passes by Ed Clary, the main back
field luminary, accounted for the
il touchdown. The Cubs scored a safety

Rollins College has agreed to meet

Georgia Tech has also been sched

The squad has been cut to sever
men who are practicing every Tues
day, Thursday, and Friday afternoon
in the gymnasium.
This looks like one of the besl
teams Carolina has ever had and they
are in hopes of bringing the cham
