Carolina suffered a double defeat at
the hands of Duke Monday afternoon
? by the score of 13 to 1 and 7 to 1 respectively.

won a heart breaker 7-6.
Newberry's surprise victory over
Ciemson Monday shoved the Gamecocks
back into the Palmetto loop lead
with four wins and one loss to their
credit. The Gamecocks stand second
in the league in pitching averages.
Hook Williamson, Carolina catcher,
has an average of 409, the same as
that of Guy Williams of Furman and
second only to.th.it of John Troutman
of Ciemson whose average is .462.
Carolina and Furman also tic with a
pitching average of 800 still below
Clemson's 100. The South Carolina
State League standing is as follows:

boys' and girls' tennis matches was
not available as The Gamecock went
to press. Traveler's Rest was the only
school sending in a list of participants.
These were: Edith Chilcrs, Carrie
Mac Ashemore in the girl's matches;
Arthur Williams, Jack Donnelcy, and
Lewis Lamb in the boys'.

game each. Kneecc with 15 strikeouts
to his credit doubles the tally of
