At present, it is a little too chilly for work in the open, md they are limbering their arms under .team heat. So far there are only a few candidates nit, but many will be added when real work begins. No Bird-Tiger Cage Contest Plans for a playoff game between the University of South Carolina and the Clenison basketball teams fell through yesterday, when Dr. Ralph K. Foster, director of student activities at the University of South Carolina, was notified by the Clemson athletic authorities that riemson would be unable to play due to sickness of two of their basketball players. Taylor, Hum^hlettTkilton, Carry Carolina's Hopes In Tourney Mitt Meet Marry Hilton, Junior Middleweight Bill Humphlett, Welterweight; and l.o' renzo Taylor, Bantamweight were the Carolina Boxers to get bids to the South ern Conference Boxing Tournament to be held at Charlottesville, Va., today and tomorrow. The three boxers, Manager Dowl.ng, Coach Frankie Demars and interested members of the Faculty |cft yesterday morning at 5 o'clock by train for the meet. Captain Humphlett is a strong contender for the crown and went far toward that goal last year. He has won most of his fights this season and it s hoped that he will win. This is his last year on the team and he has hecn one of the mainstays of the team for three years. Lorenzo Taylor is another strong contender, having won all of his 'fights this year and proved his superiority over any and all opponents, lie is state champion "i Ins weight. This is his second vear on the team and also his second year at tlic conference. He showed up well last year. It is hoped that his eye injury, received in the P. C. encounter, will bc able to stand up under the strain. Hilton is making his debut at the conference tins year and is always a threat to any opponent. Hilton has showed up remarkably this year and has improved i" every fight. This is his first year on the team and he fights like a veteran. Any of his opponents up there may look for a good light from him at any time. Fencing Team Starts Season Cohen, Elected Captain; Boykin, Cohen, Stephenson, Orlikoff To Represent Carolina After several weeks of daily practises under Coach Carroll Berman. the fencing team will begin their schedule Saturday when they encounter the College <>f Charleston at Charleston. Despite the lack of material the team has shown' unexpected form and a well balanced team has been molded. The varsity team is composed of four members; Cohen, Boykin, Stephenson, and OrlikofT. They will fight with the cpee, sabre, and foil. At a meeting Wednesday, Joseph Cohen was elected the captain of the varsity quartet and will serve in that capacity in the match with Charleston and during the rest of the season.
