IiDamas Club ! Gives Dance At Jefferson Hotel Christmas Ball Will Last From Ten Till Two On Night Of December Seventh The Christmas Datnas will be danced at the Jefferson Hotel December 7. The dance will last from ten until two. The Gamecocks will furnish the music. Invitations will be issued this The grand march will be led by Betty Carlisle, president of the club, and her date. The Junior-Senior figure will be led by Catherine Hendley, senior leader, and her date; and Amelia DcsChamps, junior leader, and her date. Due to the fact that the club was unable to obtain the gym, it was decided at the meeting last Tuesday to have the dance at the Jefferson. Chapcrones arc being asked. Officers of the club are. president, Betty Carlisle; vice-president, Catherine Townsend; treasurer, Lois Kirkley; secretary, Margaret Patrick. DANCE GIVEN BY A. D. PI ACTIVES Alpha Delta Pi actives gave a most enjoyable formal dance for the pledges and their friends last night from 9:30 until 1;30 at Ridgewood Country club. The Carolina GanieI cocks, under the direction of Gregory iYarce, played for the affair. The ballroom was beautifully decorated in blue and white, the sorority colors and at one end of the room were the large silver letters, A. D. Pi. Chaperons invited to attend were: Judge M. S. Whaley and Mrs. VVhaley, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Seibels, Air. and Mrs. C. C. Fishburnc, Dean F. \V. Bradlev and Mrs. Bradley, Mr. and Mrs, George R. P. Walker, Col. J. Girls Club Gives Dance The Nondescript club will have their annual Christmas tea dance on the afternoon of December 7, immediately preceding the Datnas. The dance will & be held at Ridgewood from 6:30 to 8:30. Marion Walker is in charge of the dance. There are thirty girls in the club. "Y" Cabinets Will Meet At Director's Home There will be a joint meeting of the Y. W. C. A. and Y. M. C. A. cabinet: I at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. G Bell on Friday night at 7:15 o'clock An evening of entertainment has beei arranged for the occasion. ?U. H. C. Adams Gives Young Oaks To University Dr. F. C. L. Adams has presented to the University a number of very fine young Willow Oaks which were planted in gaps along College, Sumter, and Pendleton streets, where old trees either died or were killed by storms. The finest of the old oaks around the campus are of- this same species. i'rof. F. C. Coker expressed his appreciation in behalf of the University for the generosity of Doctor Adams. deHorvath Will Go To Paris During Holidays Felice deHorvath will spend the Christmas holidays in Paris. She will sail from New York on the lire men, December 14, and will return January 10. As her home is in Paris, Madame deHorvath usually makes a trip there every two years. Bids are being issued foi the dance which will last from tei 'till two. Every spring the fraternities givt formal dances. Since there are sc many dances in so short a time giving some in the fall proves to be a goot idea. The Gamecocks will furnish tin music. "My Phi Kap Girl" will be played for the special Phi Kappj Sigma no-break. Members from the Washington ant Lee chapter will be guests. National Officers Visit Sigma Chi J. Spenser Bell, Charlotte and Wil liani B. Rieko were guests at tin Sigma Chi house on Monday and Tuesday. Monday night the alumni chaptci gave a.banquet in their honor at tin Jefferson Hotel. Mr. Bell is grand praetor of tin North Carolina-South Carolina prov ince, and Mr. Ricko is grand praeto of the Kentucky-Tennessee province Sigma Kappa Luncheon Sigma Kappa gave a luncheon Sat urday for Mrs. James E. Brenner grand secretary. Members, pledge: and alumnae attended. Alpha Delta Pi Dance A. D. Pi gave a dance last night a Ridgewood from 9:.M) 'till 1:30. Tin actives gave it for their pledges. Marian Wil%on, president of th pledges, and her date, DuBose Egles ton, led the grand march. Old Spinning Wheel Acquired By Library A spinning wheel and reel perhaps a hundred years old has just been acquired bv the University library for its museum. The wheel was once owned by the O'Neall family of Newberry County and is thought to be of local manufacture, as it is constructed mostly of native pine. Most spinning wheels were made of hickory. Unique Sign Placed On Door Of S. C. Room "Xo visitors allowed in this room Inorder of attending physician" is the formidable sign placed on an iron barred gate in the South Carolina room of the niversity of South Carolina library. Miss Bessie Glenn, librarian, whose inner sanctum the sign and door protects, smiles and says that there are bookworms present and that they need rest and quiet! The reason for the sign is to keep strangers from exploring and disarranging the overflowing stacks. And the strange wording is due to the fact that it came from off the door of a hospital room. To Meet Here For Alumni Convention Local Chapter Expects Forty For j Thanksgiving Homecoming Day Homecoming for Phi Beta Delta, social fraternity, will bring approximately forty alumni here Thanksgiving, according to reports from the j local chapter. Registration at the local chapter house will begin early Thursday morning, with a luncheon in the afternoon prior to the Washington-LeeCarolina game. A party will be given the alumni at I <?::*<) p. 111., followed by a formal banquet in their honor at the Columbia j Hotel at 8:.50. After the banquet an informal dance will be given at Community Center at 10 o'clock. Madame Felice deHorvath gave a violin recital in her studio for the members of the Columbia Violin club Wednesday night. The following selections were played, Mrs. Maurice Matteson accompanying: "Arioso," Bach; "Land-! ler, ' Mozart: "Meditation Thais," Massanet; "Hymn To The Sun," Rimskv Korsakoff; "The Swan," Saint Saens; and "Serenade," Toselli.
