What would happen if a comct tc should strike the earth? s< That question is answered in De- si cember Harper's magazine in an arti- g cle by Edna Muldow, who vividly describes one that tWQ scientific experts c< believe actually fell in Horry county some thousands of years ago. n * The author calls attention to the o fact that prior to 1931, Dr. L. C. ti Glenn, professor of geology at the s| University of South Carolina was the ir only scientist who attempted to solve c; the peculiar topography of Horry w county. In 1895 he wrote an article e; for Science, giving his own theory as ai to the formation of the numerous pits, vi or "savannas" as they are known locally. b Writing in Harper's, Miss Muldow d says: ta "The latest of these discoveries.... si presents the hypothesis that an cnor- tc mous comet twice as large as Hallcy's II once struck the earth in the region tl that is now the Carolinas, and so re- b cently that the scars still remain. He was an actvie member of' the society at the time he attended the University. / That the revised constitution of the society will probably be presented at the next meeting of the society was reported by L. D. Lide, chairman of the committee appointed several weeks ago to revise the present constitution or to form a completely new one. Immediately following the business of the evening the society convened into the junior senate and the bill -condemning the entrance of women into politics was brought up. L. A. Defends M Prof. James Harvey Rogers, one of tli the long line of state and national 1,1 political luminaries Society Hill, South Carolina, has produced, came to the ^ fore last week in defense of the administration's monetary policy. Mr. ^ Rogers is now Professor of Economics at Yale University. He is an alumnus ?l of the University of South Carolina, and while here was a classmate of Dr. Bruce Coleman, Professor of mathe- ^ matics at the University now. Profes- ^ sor Rogers was initiated into the Carolina chapter of Phi Beta Kappa two years ago. He is from Saint David school at Society Hill. Enoch Han- 'a ford and Thomas Park, first two pro- s fessors at the South Carolina College, when Jonathan Maxey was president, came from this school. The state of November 22, carried a _ full account of Mr. Roger's comments in reply to the attacks made 011 the President's inflation program.
