Teacher Traini Examinee Chicago School Investigates Requ Here According To Selective Adm The University of Chicago is investigating the methods used in admitting students into the teacher training curriculum of the school of education of the University of South Carolina. Dr. William S. Gray, chairman of the Chicago committee^ on the preparation of teachers, has written to Dean Orin F. Crow for complete information concerning the work being done at the University. Dr. Gray is especially interested in the selective admission of students to the school of education, in control of their teaching subjects and other requirements for education degrees. The plan of the school of education is to admit students at the beginning of the junior year, when the student selects as first and second teaching subjects two academic subjects which are taught in high schools. Diploma Applications Due December First Only two weeks from today remains for seniors to file applications for diplomas or certificates without incurring the late fee of $2.00. The penalty goes into effect after December 1. Those applying, for advanced degrees have until March 1. As previously announced the diploma fee must be paid before an application for degree may be filed. The diploma fee is $1.00 or $2.50, pending upon the quality of diploma desired. A ^||??ii i|f l:?.? Grow; ission Favored ^The teaching subject requirements for a degree are similar to the major and minor requirements of the col.Icge of arts and science, with the addition of education courses, including observation and supervised teaching. All students who have a high academic standing and whd> have definitely decided to teach or engage in educational work are advised to enter the school of education. Dean Crow believes that the time will come when teacher training will be placed on the graduate level. If the professional training of teachers be delayed until after obtaining a bache, lor's degree, more time can be given to the mastery of subject matter and methods. The University school of education encourages teachers to pursue courses leading to graduate degrees. Morse Is Chosen To Head Community Chest Dr. Josiali Morse has been appointed general chairman of the Community Chest of Columbia, a combined organization of all the charitable societies of the city. 1 he Chest makes an annual drive for all the funds to be used for charity. At the present time organization and plans for the drive and can'vass are incomplete. The probable date for the opening of the big drive is December 4.
