Students Cabinet Plans Dance Soon Carolinians Will Play Students Will Celebrate Victory Over Furman In Gym Saturday Night To cclcbratc the Carolina victory over Furman the social cabinet is to give a dance at the University gym from 9 until 12 o'clock, Saturday, November 18. The student members elected to the social cabinet are J. U. Watts, chairman; Beaufort Worthy, and Louis Rosen. The faculty representatives are Prof. Charlie Mercer and Dr. J. T. Penney. Music will be furnished by the Carolinians. j) These dances are always popular among the students, and a large crowd [" is expccted to attend. Students'Will Direct Plays A bill of two plays, "Tea-Pot on the Rocks" and "Three Knocks", under the direction of Frank Durham and ^ Francis Letton, University students c' who are in charge of dramatics at Columbia High School, will be presented w in the auditorium of that school, Fri- pt day evening, at 8:30. She spoke on "What quali- ^ ties a superintendent considers in selecting a teacher".. * Miss Hiller had received 212 an- J swers to questionnaires which she sent n to the superintendents over the state ( and therefore her talk was based on a accurate facts. Scholarship was con- a sidered the first essential and personality second. Sympathy, tact, under- ] standing of children, and many other qualities were listed, and rated differently by each. The dance hall was jdecorated with sorority colors and emblems. Music was furnished by the j Gamecock orchestra. The pledges were presented with corsages. Miss Quattlebaum's home is in Prosperity. She is a member of ^ Zeta Tan Alpha and Damas and prom- q inent in campus affairs. ^ S Towsand-Benton ^ Ellen Legarc Towsand of Charleston and William Spann Benton of c; Columbia were married at six o'clock y Saturday at St. Michael's Episcopal church in Charleston. Mrs. Benton attended Carolina for one year and ( Mr. Benton attended the Citadel for two years. Verner-Neil " Mrs. Walter S. Neil announced the c< engagement of her daughter Mary Elizabeth to David Battle Verncr of Charleston. The wedding will take *place this winter. Both Miss Neil and a Mr. Verncr attended the University. n Miss Neil is a member of Tri Delta sorority and Mr. Verner is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Shand-McDonald The wedding of Miss Lucy Pride McDonald and Julian Bonham Shand was solemnized at the A. R. P. church in Chester last Saturday, November 11, at 5 o'clock. Miss McDonald's home is in Chester and Mr. Shand is of Columbia. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gadsden and is a graduate of the University in civil engineering. Coates, secretary of the South larolina Teachers' Association, at the Vesper service in the University of outh Carolina chapel Sunday night, lovember 19, is "Love in Action" acording to an announcement by Ed allcnger, chairman of the Y. M. C. A. rcsper. t Mr. Coates is also the superintends of the First Baptist Sunday chool, the largest Sunday school in lie city of Columbia at the present. Crow, dean of the school. W. II. Ofirrison, assistant supervisor of agricultural education in the state, directed the fifty teachers recruited from the entire state. The club, which was organized recently, has the following officers: Josh \bel, president; John Gregg McMaster, vice president; and Billy Uruce, secretary and treasurer.
