Of Comedy
Damas club had it's semi-annual
initiation yesterday. Forty-two members
were initiated.
The costumes which the co-cds wore
were quite different from those of last
year. Blousy, black bloomers were
seen hanging below the very short,
light-colored skirts. All wore black
cotton hose, and high heeled slippers.
The boy's caps which they wore and
the canes which, they carricd (also
added to the comedy. Their faces
were artistically painted. They car
ricu ineir oooks around in laundry
bags. Damas signs was hung around
their necks.
The initiates met at the wall at 12
a'clock. They were made to tell jokes,
sing and dance.

The University Symphony Orchestra
will give its first concert of this
year on Thursday, November 3, in
Drayton Hall. The membership in
the orchestra this year is greater than
it has ever been before, averaging
about sixty.
This is the orchestra's fifth year on
the campus. It is the twelfth year
since it was organized. The orchestra
is supported by patrons from the
campus and the city, so that no admission
fee is ever charged. The public
is cordially invited to attend the
concert.
Soloists will be Mrs. William Hapson,
soprano; Abraham Greenburg,
flutist; and Carl Weiderman, clarinet.
The program will consist of the following:

"Overture to Oberon," by Weber;
Shubert's "Unfinished Symphony;"
and "Three Dances from Henry
VIII," by German.

owns a large lemon ranch 120 miles
from Hollywood. He lives there between
pictures.

Rare beauty and charm characterized
the wedding of Miss Helen Terry,
of Columbia, and William B. Eagles
of Louisville, Ky., which took place
at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Trinity
Episcopal church.
Among the ushers were Bland Hammond,
Jr., Drufus Griffin, John Cantey,
and Frank A. Graham, all of the University.
Miss Mary Lees Graham, and
Henrietta Melton were among the
bridesmaids.
Mrs. Eagles, is a graduate of the
University. Her first two college years
were spent at Sweet Briar. She is a
member of Pi Beta Phi sorority; her
sorority sisters assisted in serving at
the reception which followed immediately
after the ceremony.
Mills-Norton
A wedding of Miss Sarah Mills of
Camden, and William Lawrence Norton
of Walhalla was solemnized Saturday
afternoon at five o'clock at the
1 brides home in Camden.
Many Columbians attended the wedding.
Among them were Dr. and
Mrs. James E. Mills, Mrs. J. M. McCutcheon,
Mrs. Mary Mills, Mrs. Lucy
Piatt, Miss Mildred McDearmon,
Elizabeth McDearmon, Ruth Campbell,
and Faith Brewer.
Sarah was a senior in the School of
Journalism and was very distinguished
on the campus for her literary abilities.

Announcement has been made of the
marriage of Miss Anne La Trobe New
to John Clinton Timmerman, Jr., on
Saturday, September 30, in St. Ambrose
chapel at the cathedral of St.
John the Divine in New York City.
Mrs. Timmerman, the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schofield New
of Columbia, is an honor graduate of
the University, '30. She is now living
in New York City and acting as editor's
assistant and secretary to the

Buchanan-Norwood
At noon, October 7, Miss Rena
Buchanan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
George Andrew Buchanan, became the
bride of Joseph Norwood, son of the
j late A. W. Norwood and Mrs. Nor|
wood, of Marion. The wedding took
| place in the first Presbyterian church
j at Marion.
I Mrs. Norwood was graduated from
the School of Journalism at the University
last June.
Jones-Savage
Distinguished by its simplicity was
the wedding of Elizabeth Jones to
Henry Savage, Jr. which took place
; recently. Mrs. Savage is the second

j Jones and is the sister of Mrs. William
P. DuBose and Beverly Jones.
After attending Hollins College for
one term, she finished at the University
in 1029, a member of Pi Beta

She received her Master of Arts from
Wesley in 1930. Then for two years
was a member of the faculty of Penn
Hall, school for girls.
Mr. Savage is an outstanding young
lawyer of the Camden bar.

Ridgewood Country Club Is Scene
Of Annual Honor Dance

The pledges of the fraternities who
were bid Monday, October 9, were
honored by the Pan-Hellenic council
witli a dance Wednesday night, from
9:30 until 1:30 o'clock at Ridgewood
Country Club.
The council is composed of two representatives
from each fraternity, the
president and the Pan-Hellenic representative.
Those invited to the dance
were the active members of the fraternities
and the pledges. The officers
of the group arc: Adrian Spears, president;
Archie Beattie, vice-president;
Randolph Johnson, secretary and
treasurer. The members of the dance

Of Talk In Hypatian
A talk on the Honor System by
Clelia Keels Black was the feature of
the first meeting of the Hypatian Literary
Society, held Wednesday afternonn
in the Clariosophic Hall.
The meeting, which was a social one,
