Degrees
Barber Makes.
To Caroh
Degrees were conferred upon 231 persons
at the June graduation exercises
of the University of South Carolina.
A crowd of nearly 3000 was present at
the formal closing of the University's
128th session in the field house.
The commencement address was made
by William A. Barber, prominent New
York attorney and at one time attorney
general of South Carolina. Mr. Barber
was introduced by Senator R. M.
Jefferies of Walterboro, member of the
board of trustees.
Two prominent South Carolinians,
William E. Gonzales of Columbia, and
A. M. Foster of Greenville, received .
the honorary degrees, respectively, of ,
Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Engi- ,
neering. Professor Robert D. Bass re- ,
ceived the degree Doctor of Philosophy
in English. Two hundred twenty-eight \
students received degrees from various ;
departments of the University.
