Helen Staples Receives Honor National Honorary Spanish Fraternity Elects Local Co-ed As President Helen Staples, a senior in the School of Journalism, was elected president of Sigma Delta Pi, national honorary Spanish fraternity for the coming semester. Miss Staples is also vicepresident of Chi Delta Phi, and a pledge of Alpha Kappa Gamma, national leadership sorority. She is former editor of The Carolinian. Miss Staples has served as vice-president of the fraternity for the past semester. A. S. Hodge, senior in the school of Arts and Science, was elected vicepresident. Other officers elected were: Susannah Barnwell, secretary-treasurer; Annie Kaminer, corresponding secretary; and Millie Taylor, reporter. Chi Delta Phi Holds Meeting Chi Delta Phi met yesterday in the Woman's Building. The feature of the program was the readng of original literary outbursts by the mem hers. The most promising were dispatched to the Literateur, the organ of the sorority. The local chapter is planning a tea in honor of Mrs. Julia Peterkin, a patroness, while she is in the city rehearsing for "Hedda Gablcr." The next meeting will he an open one, at which prospective members will read an effusion, on which the active members will pass. The sorority's officers are: -Mary Begg Ugon, president; Helen Staples, vice-president; Millie Taylor, secretary-treasurer, and Marian Finlay, correspondent. IT. S. C. University Glee Club Sing For Legislators Singers from both the boys' and girls' glee clubs entertained at a banquet given Wednesday evening in the Hotel Columbia by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce in honor of the State legislature. '1 lie Stale solons and t}ie members of the Chamber of Commerce enthusiastically applauded the program which was composed of light and popular numbers. Many Enjoyed Junior Dance The third Junior class dance of the season was given last Tuesday night from to 1 ::i0 in the University gymnasium. Although the second Carolina script dance of the week, the affair proved to be one of the most delightful social occasions of the season. Music for the prom was rendered by "Piute" Wimberly and his Carolinians. Several members of this orchestra have had experience playing on European tours. IJ. H. C.
