MORSELS
B(y MORSE
The rainy season is upon us, but the
campus cynic says most of us are all
wet, anyhow.
There are two doors at the north end
of Davis College, but only one of them
is allowed to open. Now we don't mind
being in a mob scene, tut we do dislike
having to fight our way to and
from classes. ' .
Being peaceable and optimistic by
nature, we never feel like fighting except.
when somebody sings "Springtime
in the Rockies." And but of
course, "Sonny Boy."
And speaking of fighting, we have
decided to get married if, when, and as
soon as we find a girl who can support
us. We might marry a newspaper
woman, in which case the two of us
together could make twenty-five dollars
a week, but the fifty-fifty idea isn't
attractive.
It is estimated that if all the blurb ,
writers who have lost their jobs during I
the recent period of depression were ;
laid out end to end, there would be a
demand for more and longer periods i
of depression. <

A restaurant announces that its cus- ]
tomers will no longer have to wait for <
the vegetables rt) be planted before j
they get them. Vegetables won't be
served.
And here's another exquisite gem
that rolled from the ball point of our 1
versatile pen:
He said, "By all the stars above you, 1
You darling little turtle dove, you,
By the moon and stars, I love you:
Be my bride."
But his ardent declarations,
Adjurations, protestations,
Vows, oaths, and asseverations
She denied.
Then he begged her on his knees to
Grant his heart a little ease, to
Have compassion on him, please to
Be his wife.
But his passion was so hot,
And his sentimental rot <
So disgusting, she said, "Not
> On your life!"
1 Now the moral it is this:
> If you seek connubial bliss,
Win her with a sudden kiss:
Do not wait.
Be a caveman big and strong,
Woo her not with flattering song:
He who hesitates too long
1 Is too late.
This is the way they look before
' they're re-written:

DEAD SILENCE
. An overpowering odor, strongly suggestive
of something long since departed
from the land of the living, wafted itself
through the windows near the cast
end of the library one night last week
and threw the students there into a wild
state of confusion.
It was generally agreed that the odor
was strongest around the librarian's desk
upstairs and in the reading room downstairs.
When it was first noticed there
was tittering and (%neral amusement, but
it soon passed the amusing stage and
there was a sudden exodus to the outside,
where a council of war was held on
the library porch.
At last, with a daring freshman leading,
several students ventured into the
reading room and the upstairs librar>
and there it was upon the librarians'
desks?some dead silence.

BOLD FRESHMAN
MAKES MISTAKE
PROFESSOR'S GOLF POOR
According To Freshman, Who
Discovers Later That Golfer
Is English Teacher
One afternoon after a young and very
ignorant freshman had unburden<8l himself
of his studies, lie strolled aimlessly
in the direction of the golf links. He r
didn't care especially about playing golf,
but nevertheless he stopped to watch the
progress of several contestants. He could
not repress a hearty laugh or an indulgence
in a bit of sarcasm when lie saw
ane man take several hundred strokes to
get over the golf course. "Say, there,"
lie said, "you must be a professor. No
one else could be as had at golf as you
are, and you ought to be good for something,
so you must be a darn professor."
The man who was the subject of the
ridicule turned very slowly, and calmly
looked at the sarcastic youth. Without
the smallest retort he paid his dues and T
walked off.
The next morning the freshman decided
to soft soap his new English professor.
After much begging and pleading
he had managed to get into a new class.
He was very much pleased with himself
this particular morning, as he had studied
well the night before, to make a good
impression. He walked up to the classroom
door and boldly entered. He took
one look behind the teacher's desk, then
grabbed his hat and beat a hasty retreat.
His new professor was his acquaintance
of the golf links.'

REV. C. C. HERBERT
TALKS TO PROMOTION
FORCE
Monday night the Sophomore and (
Senior Y. Councils held a joint meeting
in Flinn Hall with thirty members present.
Sam Taylor had charge of the devotional
part of the program. Tracey
Snelling led the responsive reading and
C. W. Cox led in prayer.
The group was indeed fortunate in
having Rev. C. C. Herbert, of Wash- .
ington Street Methodist Church, give an
interesting talk on "Soul Surgery."
He stressed points which will be beneficial
in making Religious Emphasis
Week a success.
