MARIE SOi
QUEEN IS CROWNED
AMID REGAL GLORY
GLORIOUS CORONATION
Phi Shriner Sigma Fraternity
Gives Best To Make Ceremony
Successful
The throne room of the University
was a scene of regal splendor last night
when that exquisite, dazzling, lovely
creature, Marie, of the House of
Odom, was crowned Queen of the
May. At the demand of the queen the
room was done in modernistic style.
The throne was a pile of old soap
boxes covered with gaudy eolored
crepe paper. In the middle of the
floor there was an immense pile of dirt,
which, according to an authority, represented
Grace, the chief characteristic
of the fair queen. From the roof,
zig-zag streamers, which vaguely resembled
funny-paper lightning, fluttered
in the breeze.
In appreciation of the splendid support
of the Loyal Knights of the order
of Phi Shriner Sigma, who wrested
the crown from the hands of two upstart
pretenders and placed it in the
hands of the Golden Princess, the
queen dispensed with ladies-in-waiting
and substituted gentlemen-in-waiting
chosen from among the Loyal Knights.
Two of the handsomest children in
. the kingdom, Percy Petit and little
Ashby Lupo were the heralds. They
were dressed in red flannel undies and
blew lustily upon their tin horns.
Corn and Wilton Williams who were
dressed in lavender pajamas striped
with green and carried nose-gays of
onion flowers entered next. They
were followed by Dorsey Lybrand
and Bruce White wearing red pajamas
striped with purple and carrying bouquets
of wild periwinkles.
Dainty little Henry Etta White, who
wore a rose voile suit, was the flower
girl and strewed the path of the queen
with artificial golden rod, Eddie Sikes
wore a burnt orange hunting suit and
lace hat to perforin his duty as ringbearer.
Buddy Laval was the train-bearer
and was too sweet for words in a form
fitting nile green Undie suit. with
him came Dora Lee Aull, disguised as
a Phi Shriner Sigma pin.
When the queen entered, the hall
rocked with shouts and applause.
Marie wore a royal purple robe and
her golden hair hung loosely down
her back. She got mixed up in her
train and fell down on her way to the
throne but otherwise everything went
off beautifully.
In the absence of High-Priest Douglas,
"Red", of the House of McCall,
crowned the queen.
Music for the occasion was furnished
by Whitic Culbertson and his
Cottontops. Two famous dancers, Pat
Wardlard and Madame Billy Dean
danced before the queen.
All other members of the Loyal
Order of Phi Shriner Sigma were
busily engaged hurling the throne
back together after it collapsed when
Henry Etta White came in view. At
the close of the ceremony the loyal
subjects did a May Pole cat dance to
the great delight of the queen.

SORORITY REVIEW
Alpha Delta Pi
The Alpha Delta Pis entertained
Tuesday evening with a necking party
on the green in front of their house.
The decorations were lovely trees,
grasses and a pale moon. Cocktails
and cigarettes were served by the
pledges and the guests enjoyed petting
and spooning until it was time for
some of them to meet their 8 o'clock
classes. Miss Irene Dillard was an
ideal chaperon and got the party started
by making time with Rock Smith.
A prize was given to Malinda Barnwell
and Yates Williams for being the
loudest and longest kissers.
Chi Omega
Bob Woodward, Wightman Dibble,
Ereddie Knoblock, Troy Stokes, James
Best, and Bully Farr were initiated
into the Eta Gamma chapter of Chi
Omega last week. The officers declared
that if theae boys were not initiated
so they could attend meetings the
chapter could never have more than
half its members at a meeting.
Speaking of sororities, what does A.
D. P. stand for?, asked the freshman.
"All darn phools," someone replied.
There's another sorority that believes
in being generous, even to giving
Deep Dirty Digs.
The Chi Omega bunch is the liveliest
on the campus, as their "spirits" will
prove, although their initials imply
"Cold Outside."
The Gamma Sigmas seem to have a
hankering for college romances and
marriages.
The Phi Chi's are taking a long time
getting located. Can it be the rent?
The Delta Zeta house gives grounds
for suspicion.

QUEEN OF MAY'
WIDOW PROVES TOO
MUCH FOR ANTLEY
The campus was agreeably surprised
at the announcement of the marriage
of Mrs. Miriam O'DcIl to Mr. Ray
Antley, which was solemnized in the
journalism lab where their romance began.
The bride will be sorely missed from
her classes hereafter as all her professors
declare that she always knows
her lessons and never answers unless
called on.
The happy husband is a young
aspirant of journalism and has been
employed for several years on the
Llemson Tiger and similar papers
I he co-eds declare that Mrs. Antley
has made a wonderful catch.

CO-ED GLEE C
AND BELL*
BY SOMEHOPE SUMTER SAMS
Amid roars, grunts, cat-calls and
hisses, the annual pain-in-thc-neck
went over with a complete flop Wednesday
night, March 10th, in the University
chapel. The 48 members of
the organization labeled "The Girls'
Glee Club" held sway for more than
two hours, boring the audience with
their variated types of hollering,
screaming, yelling, kicking and jumping.
^
In order that those who had not
survived the proceeding number might
be carried out to waiting ambulances
before another fit was inflicted, the
audience was warned just before each
number by the little girls that arc

The same cast which was so closely
observed in "He Who Gets Flopped"
will be seen in "Bluebeard's Seven

as follows:

First Wife?Mrs. W. Dean.
Second Wife?Mrs. William Dean.
Third Wife?Mrs. Dean.
Fourth Wife?Willy Dean's Wife.
Fifth Wife?Mrs. "Dunny" Bean.

MISS STILL IS
NOW HEAD DOG
AT CO-ED DORM
Succeeds Mrs. Graham. Will Make
Many Changes To Better Petting
Conditions
At a reccnt meeting of the board of
trustees of the University, Miss Hattic
Mac Still was clccted matron of the
Woman's Building to succeed Mrs.
W. D. Graham whose engagement to
Judge Blankhead was announced recently.
It is the opinion of everyone
that the trustees showed unusually
good judgment in selecting such a
capable and popular woman to fill this
position.
When interviewed at her home yesterday,
Miss Still declared that she
did not intend to make any drastic
changes in the dormitory life.
"However," continued Miss Still,
"when 1 was living in the dorm, I
noticed some conditions which I think
I can change for the better. In the
first place there are not enough senior
parlors for everyone, and many girls
have to entertain dates in the lobby.
I realize that this lack of privacy is a
great handicap to the young people
so I have decided to allow each girl
to entertain her boy friends in her
own private room. 1 hear Mrs. Goddard
does this with great success at
Bohemian House.
"Furthermore, it has always been
my desire that Carolina girls should
satisfy and not walk a mile. Therefore
1 am making a rule that each girl must
smoke Chesterfield Cigarettes. I also
want my girls to keep their lovely
voices, and for that reason I shall insist
that each co-ed smoke an Old
Gold after each meal and immediately
after each date."

to our way of thinking. They were
dressed in a becoming pair of pajamalike
costumes whose color scheme reminded
us of an old red flannel night
shirt that our old man used to don before
retiring to his nocturnal repose.
But in as much as we can hardly blame
these two little pullets for what happened
we will give you their names
and devote our attention to the real
agitators of the program. They were
Miss Louisa Shand and Miss Catherine
Cantwell. Miss Cantwell's red
hair reflected a Clara Bow-ish touch
to the affair.

TANGO DANCERS
ARE SENSATIONS
Chick Foster and Mrs. Annie Madden,
dancing a new version of the
African tango, are proving the sensation
of the season among the beer
halls of Taylor Street. The pair have
presented their act before capacity
crowds twice a day for the past two
months.
Mr. Foster and Mrs. Madden are
not new to the stage and screen, both
of them having been leading actors
in Earl Carroll's famous bathtub scene.
The tv/o have been partners for years,
and have long been noted for forming
such an attractive combination.
"She shakes while I dance," Foster
declared when asked the secret of the
team's success.
