NEXT REGULAR MEETING
Scientists To Hear Alumnus Speak
On Iodine Content In
Vegetables
J. W. Bouknight, in charge of the
program for the chemistry department
of the Carolina Scientific society
states that at tlie March meeting F,
Bartow Culp of Charleston will give
an address on "Iodine in Vegetables
in South Carolina."
The address will be given in Room
401, Leconte college, Thursday night
at 8 o'clock. Non-members interested
in the subject are invited to attend the
meeting.
Mr. Culp, an alumnus of the University,
has been a chemist in the
South Carolina Food Research Commission
since its establishment almosl
two years ago.

FRATERNITY NEWS
Many of the fraternities on the campus
have already held their initiatorial
services and the majority of those that
haven't are looking forward to having
them this week.
Phi Kappa Sigma initiated the following
men into the fraternity Saturday
afternoon: Milhurn Williams,
who is an alumnus of the University,
Marshall Williams, Charles Perryclear,
Astor Fleming, Milton Williams,
Alex Urquhart, and Murdock
Urquhart. After the initiation a buffet
supper was served, followed by a
dance that night. Many alumni attendeel
the dance. Also a few members
of other fraternities on the campus
were invited.
The S. A. K.s suffered a loss when
Purl Powell withdrew from school.
Powell was a valued member of the
1929 football team and will be missed
i by the entire student body.
The Pi Kappa Phis are planning to
hold their initiation either Wednesday
or Thursday night of next week.
Mrs. Banks Dove will give a dance
at her home in College Place Friday
night in honor of the Phi Sigma Kappa
fraternity.
The following men have been initiated
into the Kappa Alpha fraternity:
George Mower, Kverett Nickles,
Henry Foster, Theodore Duvall
George Adams, William Brockington

been appointed exchange editor.
. Action was taken to see that every
member of the staff belonged to a
literary society, as required in the
constitution.

ELECTRICAL MEN HEAR
TWO NOTED SPEAKERS
Messrs. Hunt and Collect, representatives
of the Weston Electric Instrument
company of Newark, N. J., were
speakers in the department of Electrical
Engineering Thursday afternoon.
They gave an interesting and
instructive lecture on construction and
use of electrical measuring instruments.
Their lecture was illustrated
by the use of slides.

The pledges of A. T. O. gave a small
dance Friday night at their chapter
house in honor of the members and
alumni of the chapter. The dance,
which lasted from 9:30 until 1:30
o'clock, was chaperoned by Dr. and
Mrs. P. V. Mikell and Professor
Stephan. A short intermission was !
held at midnight, during which refreshments
were served.
The alumni chapter of Sigma Nu
gave an informal banquet Friday night
at the Rose Mary tea room. Members
of the fraternity from all over the
state were present and David Rembert
and James Cathcart of the University
chapter of the fraternity met with the
' alumni.

physical examination in connection

The examination was held at Fort

still having a "swell time," according
to the reports of Mrs. Annie Madden.
J. J. Brown and Albert Williams have
been released and Carl Brown, circulation
manager of the Gamecock, and
W. W. Jones admitted. All arc suffering
from the same ailment?the
mumps. Adrian Spears is still a guest
of the infirmary.
Casey Derrick, who recently suffered
an attack of appendicitis, was released
from the infirmary on Sunday.
Bill Douglas is still on his diet, according
to headquarters.
