0. D. K. MEETS TO
CONSIDER NEW MEN
SELECTS MEN AS MEMBERS
Fraternity To Invite Men To Be
Members In Leadership
Group
Omicron Delta Kappa met in the
law building Wednesday afternoon to
consider prospective members. The
following men were chosen to receive
bids: Frank Taylor, Lawson Scott,
Ashley Halsey, Herbert Black, Hugh
Stoddard, and Robert Wauchope.
R. B. Hildebrand is president of the
organization. Kenneth Grimsley was
in charge of investigating prospects.
The men chosen fulfilled the requirements
chartered in a recent issue of
The Gamecock, and were also outstanding
men on the campus. Judging
by their past attainments and
present endeavorers, these men should
ably carry 011 the ideals of this fraternal
leadership uroup.

FRAT NEWS
Pledges of the Phi Sigma Kappa
will give a dance Wednesday night at
the fraternity house on Green street
in honor of their brothers. The affair
will take the place of the holiday
dance given by members of the fraternity.
Christmas decorations will
be used to make the dance a real
Yuletide affair.
The pledges of the fraternity are:
John E. McKnight, Joe Coker, Wilbur
Smith, L. Alford, Jim Gillespie, Paul
Martin, Charles Cook, and Buck
Smith.
Phi Sigma Kappa pledged last week
John IC. McKnight and Jim Gillespie.
Phi Pi Phi has issued invitations to
a dance at their home on College
street Tuesday evening.
Phi Kappa Alpha announces the
pledging of Miles Blount.
Marion Poliakoff, of Abbeville,
alumni delegate from the local chapter
of Phi Epsilon Pi, to the fraternity's
annual convention in Cincinnati,
finding that he could not attend, has
given his proxy to Leroy Want. Want
is the active delegate to the convention,
which is to be held from the
29th through the 31st of this month.
A complete list of fraternity addresses
should be an accessibly
placed upon the campus. At present,
it is almost impossible for a stranger
to obtain information regarding the
whereabouts of those not listed at the
information bureau or known by the
telephone operator on duty there.
"Binx" Dupre, visited the Sigma Chi
chapter this week-end. He is teaching
;it North Carolina State.
With rushing fast coming into vogue
among "honorary" fraternities, desperate
deeds are naturally to be feared.
However, from the fraternity's point
of view, slip ups and politics, combined
with personalities form the most
dangerous element.
Will Doctor Foster abolish Phi Beta
Kappa, and fraternities spelt reversely,
as he did the social cabinet? Perhaps
lie will concede their right to be here
as the faculty aided in selecting the
first membership, and the judges are
closely affiliated with many prominent
members of the latter.
Sigma Chi is giving a dinner at
Ridgewood club Wednesday evening.
Places will be laid for forty. Many
prominent alumni throughout the State
have signified their intention of being
present. It is hoped that Dr. Bennett,
president of Lander College, will
be here to met the active members, as
lie was unable to attend the installation
ceremonies a few weeks ago.
Alumni of the fraternity, living in
Columbia, together with members 011
the faculty, arc in charge of arrangements.
Kappa Sigma has elected the following
officers to serve during second
term: Hugh Stoddard, grand master;
William Barbour, grand preclurator;
Mason Brunson, grand scribe; Samuel
McPherson, grand master of ceremonies;
Miller Patterson, grand treasurer;
White and Craven, grand guards.
Pi Kappa Phi is sending Blood Hildebrand,
president of the local chap- I
ter, to the fraternity national convention,
which is to be held in Charleston
during the holidays. These arc
held every two years in the city by the
sea, where I'i Kappa was founded at
that literary cstabh?nmcnt The College
of Charleston. ?
Many members of the local chapter
hope to be present for the meetings
and accompanying festivities.

Legare Walker, law student, who was
with Miss Ellsworth, was knocked unconscious
and cut over the left eye
when the car he was driving dived
into a ditch near Columbia.
Miss Ellsworth walked to the home
of O. P. Embleton, where she called
an ambulance from the Baptist Hospital.
When the ambulance arrived at
the wreck, it was found that Walker
had temporarily regained consciousness
and crawled away. Bloody
tracks led to his resting place in the
woods, where he was located.
Walker was released from the hospital
after treatment, and has since attended
classes with a bandage 011 his
forehead. Miss Ellsworth is still in
the hospital, but is recovering rapidly.
She was to have danced in the Players'
production, first of its kind at
Carolina in many years.

, Romance is everywhere. On
this campus, so well stocked
with?co-eds, all roads lead to
lov(ing). Who would think
after he had made a date with
one of our women literati, that
he would be called upon to indulge
in things other than
study, after entering that domain
where even women are quieted.

For the second time in the
University's history, things ran
, warm enough in the lower hall
of the library to attract wide
; attention. Last Thursday evening
students enjoying tete-atetes
were greatly facilitated
when darkness pervaded the
sanctum. A warmth of some
degree around the switch board
caused the fuse box. to give up
the "host.
Some years ago the faculty's
interest was aroused after evidence
of undue heat was reported
to be around in and emanating
from this same lower
hall. So uniquely decorated by
a pair of horses. In this case
students were mainly interested,
etc.
It is reported by certain Y. M.
C. A. members serving on the
staff that an "ed," prominently
connected with financial department
of The Gamecock, stated
that for the first time the reading
room serves its proper
usage.
"That's enough for you," said the
doctor as he finished the operation.
"Who is that fat party getting on
the car?"
"That ain't no party. That's an excursion."
She was only a Prof's daughter but
she knew the easy marks.
