RECORD MEETING ALUMNI COUNCIL ATTENDED BY ALL MEMBERS Thousand Paid Members Of The Alumni Association Is Goal Set At Meeting Silhouette Grill was the scene of the recent meeting of the Alumni Council, which was held on Saturday, September the twenty-eighth. The meeting was called to order by George Bell Timmerman, of Batesburg, president. This gathering of the Association marked a new record for the council, for it is said that yesterday's meeting was the first time in the history of the organization that all members had been present. The Alumni Council relation to the Alumni Association of the University of South Carolina is the same as that of a board of directors in a large corporation. It is evident that these gentlemen composing the present Alumni Council are in earnest and mean to do some real work- for the Alumni Association, as well as their Alma Mater. Saturdays meeting decided to increase the membership to one thousand paid members. All members of the classcs of '29-'30 can join the Association for one-half fee, namely $2.50. This rule will affect every graduate for two years prior to graduation. Resolutions were made and carried to include the class of '28 at the June meeting of the Association. Immediately after the meeting a luncheon was served and the Council adjourned to the football game, where they sat in a body. The Alumni Council has plans in mind that when fully developed will ^ mean much good for the University. Gen. Johnson Hagood, now of Omaha, commander of the Seventh corps area. Major Hagood said, "I consider it a great honor to have this fine air field named after me. I trust that it will always be used for commercial purposes, though as a military man I can visualize its importance in time of war." On this day the regular fall meeting of the Alumni Association will be held. Many old grads are expected to gather from far and near to what is expected to be Carolina's greatest home gathering. Following the meeting the Alumni in a body will march to seats reserved for them. Carolina's first Home Com- Ling Day was in November, 1927 at i? which time the University defeated the University of North Carolina 11-7, then, the following year Furman was beaten to the tune of 6-0. Thus again comes another gala occasion of the former Gamecocks. Not yet has the University lost a Home Coming game, and it is hoped that they will continue the good work, said Barney Farly, secretary of the association. Fully fifteen hundred or more are expected.
