) CAROLINA BEATS YELLOW JACKETS Gamecocks Upset Dope To Beat Tech In Atlanta The old dope bucket got another tremendous upset Thursday afternoon when Carolina walked away with Ga. Tech to win handidly by the lop sided score of 17-3. Getting off to a four run lead in the first inning the Gamecocks continued to pile up runs throughout the game to run Tech ragged chasing the balls. After the first inning when Tech scored three runs, Hugh Stoddard settled down to pitch a no run con test for the rest of the game. To attempt to tell the story of each Bird run would take pages, so fast did they come. Every man on the team got at least one hit save one and he contributed his bit in some flashy fielding. Coachl Laval used three hurlers, but only one of them proved at all ef fective. Bob Stoddard held the Hur ricane to three hits while he oc cupied tihe mound. The Gamecock showed that they are still all powerful with the willow but the hits were not forthcoming when most needed. Gonfalon stock dropped 100 points in this game. Won't take many more of this type for stock to hit rock bottom. FURMAN IS H- TO BEAT any place or any time. Don't ever under-rate these babies for they are liable to throw a surprise. MEBBE THE GAMECOCKS didn't get going the day follow ing with Ga. Tech. Basehits were flying around like hail on a warm summer day. THOUGH THE GAMECOCKS haven't got such a hot chance at the Southern Conference title they can give any of its members a warm time. CITADEL PULLED THE SIR WALTER stunt Saturday after noon. They graciously laid down their bats and allowed Carolina to walk over them to a 15-3 victory. THE FOG OF BATTLE cleared too late for the Citadel hopefuls. They kinda got their bearings in the eighth inning with two runs but The Birds had already done the necessary damage. AS THE DIRECTOR WOULD SAY-The stage is all set and the curtain is slowly being raised for a relentless battle to the death with Clemson Thursday. SOMETHING IS IN THE BAL ANCE in this fight. The victors can pat themselves on the back and boastfully remark, "We're the State champs now." THIS GAME should draw the biggest crowd of any game this season. What about the band in the stands to keep the old Caro lina spirit moving? THE BIDDIES sure got to co ordinating against Winnsboro Mills Saturday afternoon. Keep up the good work Chicks. THIRD PLACE isn't so bad when the fourth place team is 16 points behind and second place is only 9 ahead.
