Well, that's just fine and all that you need now is a little conditioning. You haven't? Well, old man that is the worst move of you life It is being put on solely for your benefit and not through any mercenary standpoint. No date for the tournament has been set, but it is definitely known that the fireworks begin in 2 or three weeks. Coach Allison, Mr. Gittman and Mr. Thackham, the last two named Judge in all varsity fights of the past season, will act as officials in all of the matches. To (late 45 boxers have left their signatures in Mr. Crawford's office, but these aren't near enough to make the tournament interesting. BLACK TRACK BECOMING A MAJOR SPORT TEAM GOES TO TECH Sport Now Rates With Football -Many Records Made by Carolina Tracksters Track is coming into the limelight at the University in the near future, and it will only be a matter of time until this sport will rank along witn football. In the past track has been comparatively unimportant here, but steps are being taken whereby the sport will list along with our annual Clemson Classic at the fair. Hereto fore football, basketball, baseball, along with boxing and tennis have hell the interest of the student body, but that period is fast disappearing; the future will hold in store track as one of the main features; it shall be just as able a drawing card as either foot ball, baseball or boxing. At other colleges and universities, track is recognized more so than at th University. For instance, the Univer sity of North Carolina has produced one of the foremost teams at all of the Conference meets within the last four years; while our neighborly rival, Clem son, has been well represented at all of these. -.ach year the Georgia Tech relays in Atlanta bring together the greatest array of track stars of the entire South. and possibly some of th: foremost in the United States. Year after year has proved that the records made here at the University have been on a steady climb on the track. In 1921 the 100 yard dash was stepped off by Bristow in 10 seconds or less; this was followed by Eddie Zobel who needs no introduction; other times reveal that the 440 and 880 were run in 52 2-5 seconds,. and 2 minutes and 5 seconds. Meeks still holds the record set in '22 on the quar ter mile, while improvements are, ad ded yearly on the half-mile or 880. These few records alone show that we have the material here, it is only a mat ter of getting a sufficient number in terested in the sport. Eddie Zobel alone could place in any meet ; he forced the fleet-footed Ho grief, the P. C. ace, to eat his cinders in two races last season. Hogrief is a record holder on these. two events, how. ever. Jimmy Driver, director of studer.t activitie.s says: "Track is gradually coming into the South as a major sport ; the University will encourage it his year more than ever.
