ASPIRING STUI CLARA BOW 'PRIVATE TALK SOUGHT Prompt Response By Red Head Beauty Abashes Romeo Wishing to speak to Clara Bow, fam ous movie star, a University of South Carolina student put in a long distance call to Hollywood, California, at the close of the examination period last week. The call was placed at a private phone owned by a tenement, while the members of the tenement were all up town celebrating the grand finale of their mid year examinations. The student apparently entered the room about nine o'clock at night and made the call. When the call was made Miss Bow could not be secured immediately, and so the party had to hang up and wait until the Screen Star could be gotten on the phone. At about 1.1 o'clock the phone rang in the room. Meantime, the party wishing to speak to Miss Bow had disappeared, and the occupants of the room had returned. Answering the phone, one of the occupants of the room was told by the operator tnat Miss Clara Bow was at the line and ready to speak to the party placing the call. A name was called by the opera tor, and the student with eager amaze ment said that he knew no one by that name, but that he would call and sce if he could get him to the phone right away. The operator waited, and Clara Bow waited while University students "oured the tenement with yells and :Zhoops. Finally, the party sought ould not be found and Miss Bow told c3ie operator to wait until morning and C4ry again. C4 Early next morning, before the stu ,eits had gotten out of bed, the phone rang again. The operator stated that Miss Bow was again ready at the line Cand waiting. But the student who made the call could not be found. It is the opinion of students in the tenement that the call was placed by a student who was at the time in a trance. Another theory is that some outsider was trying to charge the stu dents with a call while they were all out of the tenement. Anyway, the call was placed in a dormitory room on the campus and Clara Bow was on the line and ready to speak. DOUGLAS ENTERTAIN FACULTY On last Thursday evening, Dr. nd Mrs. Douglas entertained at their home on Pendleton street fifty of the Uni versity faculty at a buffet supper. This was the first of a series of entertain ments which Dr. and Mrs. Douglas will give to the University faculty in the near future. Their spacious home was profusely decorated with beautiful flowers, and in the middle of the reception room was a large table covered with beautiful re-1 roses. Lrraternity News 1 On Thursday night the K-A.s gave a dance at Ridgewood Club in honor of some visitintg otlicers of the fraternity. Many students attended. Several out of town members of the Sigma - Nu fraternity will move into their house at 1409 Pendleton street thi, week. A meeting of the Pan-Hellenic coni cil will be held some time this week to decide on bid day for the present term. 'I'he A-T.O. fraternity announces that Frank Harvin, of Columbia was recent 13' pledged. On Thursday night, the S.A.E. frat ernity gave a smal!l party to the fresh men.
