WOLF PACK TO BE GAMECOCKS FINAL FIGHTERS Old North State Capitol To Be Scene of Final Game For Gamecocks SEASON SINGS SWAN SONG Game To Be Final One For Eleven Regulars In Caro olina Uniform In the final game of the season, to be played next Thursday with North Carolina State, at Ra,1eigh, 'Carolina brings to a close one of the most dra matic football seasons in the history of the institution. Starting the fall by putting away Er skine neatly, the team journeyed to the Middle West with little expectancy from Carolina fans that the Gamecocks would return victorious. When the final whistle had been blown, the Birds marched home with a 6-0 triumph over Stagg's Maroons. Following that great victory, the Gamecocks continued their glorious march, trouncing Virginia and Maryland in rapid succession, only to lose the heart breaker of the season to the Clemson Tigers. In referring to that game, it is necessary to repeat what one of the officials said to a Tiger who was gloat ing over victory after the game, "Clem son had a 6-point better team than Car olina today, but any other day would have found the Gamecocks in the lead by two touchdowns." The next two games, with Citadel and North Carolina, resulted in score less ties but, to display a rejuvenated spirit andl come out of a sli mp, Carolina turned back Furman's famot:s Hurri cane by a 6-0 score. That victory, with the exception of the Tiger go, obliter ated completely the sting received from the two tie games. In four games already played with conference teams Carolina has won two, tied one and lost one. The game in Raleigh is important both to the Game cocks and Wolf pack, as the team that wins will be around the top in the con ference standing with only one 'game lost for the season. In a compar:son of the two teams in games played, it seems that the Birds and the "Staters" are fairly evenly matched. Probably the most exacting game, that reveals the relative strength, was the one with the University of North Carol:na. Carolina battled the Tarheels to a scoreless tie, while the Wolfpack and the Chapel Hill eleven also fought on even termis in their fray, which ended with a 6-6 score. T'he Wolfpack's most serious threat w'll lie in Fred Vaughn, heavy tackle, and two star backs, Warren and Melton who have furnished tough going for op posing teams lis year.. Carolina, in Julian Beall, Rogers, Joy. and Wolfe can boat four of the best linemen in the state and, as for backs, Wimberly, Bolneau and Benll present a trio that The Fog WITlH A VICTORY over Furman tucked safely away, it can easily be said that the season is a success, since it has its redeeming features. Although Carolina has nothing more than a tri-concerned view at the state title, it must be remembered that the Gamecocks played hell with one of the leading contenders. CAROLINA, IN REVERSING the Hurricane, accomplished something that a Clemson eleven has yet to do. The Tigers have a long road to travel between the opening and final whistle of the Hornet-Jungaleer af fair Turkey Day. In other words, we "wanna" share the championship. THE GAME BETWEEN Carolina and N. C. State will reveal one of two things, whether the Wolfpack can nose out a win over the Gamecocks or fall to the lowly plane occupied by the rest of the mediocre North Carolina teams that have registered but one victory over a Palmetto op ponent this fall. CAPT AIN BILL COOPER-to whom goes the credit for having directed a Carolina team in victory over two of the season's most outstandinmg opponents, Ch'cago and Furman. BOB WIMBERLY-the "race-horse" of the backfield and in whom lies "all-state" material, has been one ..i Carolina's greatest backs. He dons his uniform for the last time next Thursday. POWER ROGERS-who played in th: backfield h:s sophomore year and ater was switched to end, develop ed into one of the most consistent players on the team. DRUFUS GRIFFIN-another of Caro lina's ends, and who came to the front during the present season, will place jersey "No. 12" "among his souvenirs" after Turkey Day. HARRY WOLFE-of "the city by the sea," and who has been a menace to opposing backs all season, will make hi.s last tackle for Carolina. He looks like another "all-stater." RALPH GUARINO-the "hard rock' from Newv Jersey, who has never known what "time out" means, lines up for his last contest in Bird colors. JOYNER, DERRICK, STODDARD all three of whom have done goo,l work this season, will probably get a chance to do their last bit for Car olina in the game with N. C. State. FULMER AND WATSON-products of Hyatt Park and Columb'a high, respectively, will make their fare well appearance in a "diamond breast" eniform day after tomorrow in Raleigh. will hardly be kept out of the score column, Thanksgiving. Every tenement should beg'n getting its material together now, as excuses for a last minute rush to be come eligible for the first game will not be accepted, due to the fact that the schedule for each eleven will be in the process of making, after the day re quired for each team representat've to report. The captain of each team must report to Mr. Crawford at his office the Mon (lay (December 3) following Thanksgiv ina to receive a ball, as none will be ssted before that date. The chief rules concerning eligibility are: (1) "No student who has participated in a football game, either varsity or freshman, at this institution or any other college, this year or any preceding years, wIl be allowed to play." (2) "No student who has made a trip with eith Varsity or freshman teams in any year (including this), whether al lowed to enter the game or not, will not be eligible." So there you are "in a nutshell." In order to clarify the matter as to whether students will meet gym during the tenement football season, these rules will be strictly enforced: (1) "Any member of a tenement foot ball team will be excused from gym when practice begins (after December 13) PROVIDED his name is designated on the tenement list to be presented to Mr. Crawford, on the opening day of practice, by the captain of each tene ment team." (2) "When a tenement team is elimi nated (after two losses), the members of the team twice defeated will auto matically report back to gym, and ab sences will be strictly recorded against those who fail to report." Uniforms will not be issued until th,: (late of the game and, immediately fol lowing the contest, all equipment will he returned to Mr. Crawford, so as to facilitate the transfer of uniforms to the teams entering the next fray. These contests are look ed forward to with interest each year usually because the contests reveal play ers of ability who have never attempted to make the Varsity. The winner of the tenement tourna ment will be presented with a handsome trophy, upon which will be engraved the names of each player on the team.
